WELCOME TO GRAND ISLAND VINEYARDS: For more than 50 years our family has tended our vineyards and grown our own grapes, for our wines, along the lush banks of the Sacramento River. We are striving to perfect the art and science of grape growing, and we’re proud to share the rewards of our labor by creating wines that showcase distinctive grapes perfectly. Bridging all aspects of our Winery from the Vineyard, to the Cellar, Winery Grounds,Tasting Room and beyond.

2019 GIV Chardonnay

ITEM NO. 19CHAR • IN STOCK

SHIPS IN 2-3 BUSINESS DAYS

Ed and David are very pleased with our previous 2019 Grand Island Vineyards Chardonnay. This vintage of Chardonnay came into the winery with very high levels of acidity and beautiful fruit character. We decided to take a slightly different approach to winemaking this year and not use any oak in the production of this wine. Interestingly, we also used ML fermentation and lees contact to soften the impact of the acidity and to bring complexity to this wine. It will pair well with a variety of lighter style dishes including sushi, bread and olive oil, ceviche, spring vegetable pasta dishes, and lightly spiced fish cakes.

Price: $18.00

Is it Harvest Again Already? YES!!!

Written by GIV Winemaker, Ed Seikel

n1.jpg

Harvest is here once again! While some of the other wine regions around us appear to be ahead of schedule, the GIV Estate grapes look to be ripening at about the same pace as we saw last year.

That means that the first week of September is shaping up to be a busy one!

David and I like to determine ripeness the old fashioned way: We walk the vineyards every week, tasting the grapes along the way.

Doing it this way is so important because it lets us see how the grapes are doing on the vines as they ripen, and allows us to find the perfect intersection of sugar, acid, and flavor for each varietal we bring in.

Exciting Times @ Grand Island Vineyards!

Written by GIV Winemaker, David Shattuck

IMG_4241.jpg

As we start the harvest season at Grand Island Vineyards and begin filling the winery with 2021 vintage fruit and wine, we want to share some of the experiences that make harvest special.

While harvest tends to be very unpredictable in terms of fruit timing, which wines are tasting good, and what grapes are around the winery, we hope to offer some crush pad tours on the weekends when there are things to see and taste. So for the next month on Saturdays and Sundays, Ed and I will be periodically inviting customers at the winery to venture into the cellar and/or vineyard if they are interested.

Some of the exciting things to see and taste during harvest include freshly fermenting white wine, barrel samples, ripe wine grapes, library wines, and unreleased wines.

These tours will usually be sometime between the winery opening and noon on the weekends and will only happen if there is something interesting to see or taste that day. It is a great opportunity to connect with the winemakers and to experience the 2021 Grand Island Vineyards vintage first hand.
