One Last Bottling Run Before Harvest Comes
Written by GIV Winemaker, Ed Seikel

Harvest is fast approaching, and the first grapes of the year will most likely be coming in within the next three to four weeks, but in the cellar we still have one last bottling to prepare for!
We will be bottling 2019 vintage GIV label reds, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah, and Cabernet Franc. Along with those we will be bottling a Reserve Chardonnay and a brand new varietal release as well.
We have done barrel tastings with a previous vintage of this wine, so some of you will be familiar with it, but we will be bottling the 2020 Primitivo as a Grand Island Vineyards labeled release!
If you want to know when these new wines will be available, updates will be coming in future Bridge Newsletter articles from David and Tess!

Excitement Building for Next Wine Shipment!
Written by GIV Winemaker, David Shattuck

As we get closer to the start of grape harvest, we already see many fruits and vegetables being harvested and brought local farmer markets and stores. We frequently get asked about what wine to pair with summertime foods and are very excited for the upcoming wine shipment because it contains some of our favorite wines to pair with summer fruits, vegetables, and grilled meats.
The first wine in the shipment is the 2020 Gewurztraminer. This wine is rich with an exotic fruit and spice nose that pairs well with grilled chicken, fresh tomato salsa, gumbo with okra, and curried eggplant. It also works great as an aperitif while getting the grill heated or lounging by the pool.
The next wine is the coming new release of 2020 Rouge et Blanc. This wine is incredibly versatile in the summertime and should be drunk slightly chilled. I recommend trying it with grilled pork chops with plum chutney, spicy mustard crusted ribs, or with grilled stone fruit after dinner.
Finally, the 2018 Pinot Noir is rich with a dense mouthfeel that can stand up to just about any main dish from the grill. I particularly like it with grilled Portobello mushrooms, seared ribeye, BLT's, or halibut with a tomato caper sauce.

We are Getting Closer, Verasion!

This is a really neat time of the year. The beauty of nature really shines in the vineyard, orchard, and around the winery. In the vineyard, red varieties are changing color, (Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris also) and the whites are softening.
By the next newsletter I will be in full swing harvest.
Take a look at the beautiful grapes now, lacking in sugar and probably loaded with undesirable green flavors, but still amazing.
Come see for yourself. (Primitivo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay all at GIV)
