Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year!
It was great seeing so many families this afternoon. I hope you have had an enjoyable and restful summer!! Every beginning is filled with excitement and this year is no different. Plans have been made to make this an incredible year!!
The first day of school for every Early Childhood classroom is tomorrow, Monday, August 28th. We are going to begin the year by starting with our new policies. Children that are attending early care will go to the playroom. Children who do not attend early care should arrive between 8:15-8:30. We have heard from many parents that they would like to bring their children into the building. We are asking that you please park your car in a parking spot and walk your child into the building. The teachers will be busy in the classrooms getting ready for the day. We ask that you drop your child off at the classroom door and let them do their daily routine in the classroom. We are trying to foster independence in our classrooms. Parents also need to park in a parking spot for children who are arriving after 8:30. Please bring child(ren) arriving after 8:30 to Mrs. Sternberg or myself, and we will usher them to their classroom.

Hours of the Early Childhood Center
Farber Hebrew Day School's Early Childhood Center hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. For those students that are only enrolled half-days, pick up time is 12:00 p.m. The half day pick up will be on the 12 mile side of the building. During the fall and spring months, we close on Fridays at 3:05 p.m. During the winter months, Fridays end at 2:05 p.m. ECC students who do not have siblings in elementary, middle, or high school can begin arriving at 8:15 a.m. if they are not signed up for early care.
Early Arrival
We do offer extended morning hours for Early Childhood Center Children ONLY. This year we will be having early care in the playroom. There is a charge for this service. It is complimentary for those who have students in elementary, middle, or high school. For ALL children in the Toddler program, please walk your child to the classroom (N109). After 8:30 a.m., one must park their car in the designated visitor spot and walk your child to Mrs. Sternberg or myself.
Playground
We will be using a new web based program to communicate with families called Playground. You should have already received an invitation to join Playground. If not when you receive an email invitation, please accept the invitation and set up an account, so you do not miss any pictures or communication from the classroom teachers. We are also having the parents check their children in and out of school. You should have received a QR code at supply drop. If you did not, I will be outside on Monday, and you can get one from me. You will scan the QR code and then check your child in. At the end of the day you will do the same thing to check your child out. If you need extra QR codes for grandparents or babysitters just let me know. Please make sure that you list them on your Playground account under guardian. If you have any questions please let me know. I know it is going to be a learning curve for all of us the first couple of days so please be patient with us.
Dismissal
For children that are enrolled full-days, dismissal begins each day at 3:30 p.m. directly from the classrooms. When you arrive there will be an ECC staff member outside calling the children's names, and your child(ren) will be brought to the car. Pickup is from 3:30 p.m. - 3:50 p.m. Monday through Thursday. During the Fall & Spring seasons, Friday dismissal begins at 3:05 p.m. Winter dismissal begins at 2:05 p.m. If your child is not picked up by 3:50 p.m., they will be brought to our latchkey program, and you will be charged $20 on your FACTS account.
ECC Room-Parent
At Farber, we rely upon the support and help of our parents to add to the richness and flavor of our program. Parents have many different opportunities to become involved in the Early Childhood Center. One such opportunity is by becoming a Room-Parent.
What is a Room-Parent's responsibility? They serve as the critical liaison between the teacher and class parents. The Room-Parents duties include:
- Planning class parties and events.
- Collecting money for teacher gifts.
That may seem like a lot - but have no fear! One does not need to do it all ! The trick to being a Room-Parent is to DELEGATE and get lots of help! Most parents WANT to help in their child's class - even busy parents. Just ASK!
We look forward to seeing you tomorrow - Monday, August 28th. If you have any questions or concerns that need to be addressed before then, please contact me by email. We are excited and honored to be entering into a partnership with each of you, as we work together to make the Farber Early Childhood Center a warm, safe, loving, learning community for the families and children that we serve.
B'shalom!
