In Memoriam

Rev. Dr. Jeevaraj Lourdu, Professor of Moral Theology at St Paul’s Seminary (Trichy), died of Covid-19 on 15 June 2021. He was an active scholar and member of the Association of Moral Theologians of India (AMTI) and CTEWC, and some of his recent scholarship in the field of theological ethics is available here. His students thought of him as loving, generous, service-minded and humane. He is remembered by colleagues as a simple and humble pastor with a deep sense of commitment and dedication to serve the poor. The leadership of the AMTI offers this obituary remembering Jeevaraj.
Virtual Tables

The Pursuing Health Virtual Table invites you to join a space for theological reflection on personal and communal self-care, fidelity, justice, and mercy in contexts of health and illness. We hope to develop a new approach to teaching medical and health care ethics in college that highlights diverse narratives, virtue ethics, and participation in the pursuit of health as a common good in light of Catholic social thought. If you are interested in participating, please contact the co-chairs by August 15.

Call for Submissions
Call for Journal Submissions: Rethinking Democracy

From Hong Kong to Washington, new questions are being raised about the shape and sustainability of democracy. The questions of democratic participation also find parallels within the church, as Catholics reflect on the meaning and value of synodality and lay participation in decision making. In light of these challenges, the 2021 Pax Romana Journal invites proposals (in English, French or Spanish) for its 2021 issue on the theme of "Rethinking Democracy." More Information is available here.

Congratulations, Solange Ngah!

Solange Ngah, a recipient of the CTEWC African Women's Scholarship program, successfully defended her dissertation on June 23, 2021. The title of her thesis is: "LE PARADOXE DE LA PAUVRETÉ CONSACRÉE EN AFRIQUE" (The paradox of consecrated poverty in Africa).
The problematic she discusses in her dissertation is a reflection on the relevance of the vow of poverty, in the societal context of poverty in Africa. She looks at the nexus between this choice to commit and to live according to the vow of poverty by placing it at the heart of the development challenges of this continent. Join us in congratulating Solange for her persistence and hard work!

On 11 June, Pope Francis appointed Rev. Mgr Vincenzo Viva, currently Rector of the Pontifical Urban College "de Propaganda Fide" in Rome and professor of moral theology at the Alphonsianum, as Bishop of the suburbicarian Diocese of Albano (Italy). Vincenzo Viva participated in the CTEWC-Conference of Trento (2010) and is in connection with our network.
