Welcome to
Charting the LifeCourse Good Life Groups
Interactive Learning Collaboratives for Parents

Welcome! This email is like a virtual welcome packet and has important information to help you get oriented.

We are so excited to learn and practice together. Each one of us can expect to leave these sessions with concrete tools to communicate what our children want and need in order to be successful in school. We also expect to grow as advocates because of our connections with one another.

Please explore this email thoroughly. Note that there is a minor assignment for you to complete by Wednesday, 2/22. We welcome your questions and comments.

Session 1: Kick-Off Agenda

  • Get to know each other activity
  • Sharing: One-Page Profile
  • Learning: CtLC and the Integrated Supports Star
  • Trying: Build Star Together

{Action Required} You Have An Important Assignment!
The What
Fill out a One-Page Profile with your child and family. Send it to us by Wednesday, 2/22/23 so we can add it to our presentation for the kick-off.
The Why
In our kick-off, we will be sharing about ourselves and the children that have motivated us to grow as advocates. If you're like us, you'll be excited to share about your kids. This is a low impact assignment that we hope will get our juices flowing in a student-centered, strengths-based direction.

Good Life Group Community Agreements
These agreements are a way to establish a safe, accepting space for every member. Please take a minute to read through these. The group can make adjustments and additions along the way as we build community together.

  • Everything said and heard in the group will be treated with respect for the participants’ privacy. What is said in the group stays in the group.
  • Silence is acceptable. No one needs to say anything she/he does not wish to say. The group is supportive rather than judgmental.
  • The group offers respect for individual choices and experiences.
  • The group is inclusive. Individual values, cultures, religious beliefs, disabilities, sexual orientation, gender identity and personal experiences matter.
  • Share the air.
  • Only one person talks at a time.
  • Some sharing may be time limited so that we can get through our session on time.
  • We will listen actively.
  • Avoid the "danger zone".
  • Recognize that our work may bring up big emotions, trauma or sensitive subjects.
  • Take measures to care for ourselves and get private, one to one support when the need arises.
