Welcome to the Inaugural

Region 6 Public Health Leadership Institute!

July 28, 2023

Dear Romeo R

Welcome to the 2023 Region 6 Public Health Leadership Institute (R6-PHLI)! We are excited you have chosen to participate in the inaugural cohort. This message contains instructions on getting started.

To begin the program, you need to set up an account on the Tulane PACE Learning Management System, introduce yourself on the discussion board, complete a cohort questionnaire, note the upcoming Emotional Intelligence assessment and prepare for the first live session. It should take 1-2 hours to complete these tasks, but we recommend giving yourself additional time to contact us if you have any questions or technical challenges*. Here are the instructions and timeline to the first live session on September 7, 1:00 p.m. CT:

Step 1. By August 15, Set up your account and login to the Tulane PACE Learning Management System (LMS).

The LMS is a learning platform for the Leadership Institute. You’ll go here to access weekly materials, have discussions with your cohort, submit assignments, and progress through the program. You’ll need to have your account set up so that our technical staff can enroll you in the program and so you can do the next steps below.

  • You’ll be notified of your enrollment and can then login to start the program and move on to the steps below. Click here for the login tutorial.

Step 2. August 15 - September 4, meet your cohort on the discussion board.

The discussion boards are integral to the PHLI. They are a space for learning and dialogue on a variety of topics and current issues. There’s also a “General” discussion board that will stay open throughout the program for any topic or conversation you wish to initiate. Once our technical staff have enrolled you in the cohort, you can access discussion boards from the R6-PHLI Hub. To get started on the first discussion board:

Step 3. By September 5, complete and submit the cohort questionnaire.

Your responses to this questionnaire are confidential and important for the session leads to understand a little more about who you are, where you come from and what you’re interested in. It helps us prepare to facilitate the group of individuals who make up the cohort community. You can access the questionnaire from the PHLI hub or click here to go straight to it.

Step 4. August 1 – September 7, be advised of and take the EQi-2.0 Emotional Intelligence Assessment.

The first topic of the program is about the role of Emotional Intelligence (EI) in effective leadership. The EQi-2.0 is the most widely used EI assessment in the world. We’ve contracted experts – the Dickens Group – to administer the assessment and to work with you individually on analyzing your results. The first week of August, you’ll receive instructions from the Dickens Group on completing this important activity before the first live session.

  • Be on the lookout during the first week of August for instructions from the Dickens Group.

  • Follow instructions from the Dickens Group to take the EQi-2.0 Emotional Intelligence Assessment.

Step 5. On September 7, 1:00 p.m. CT, be on Zoom for the first live session.

All biweekly live sessions will be conducted via Zoom and will use the same link for access. You’ll need Zoom on your device and an environment free from big distractions. The “doors” will open 5 minutes prior to each start time so you can test your audio/video.

  • Make sure your device is ready. Download Zoom if you need to.

  • Make sure your settings are ready. Use the live session Zoom link to get into the session a little early if you want to. Passcode: 202300

*Your contact for questions about the LMS and technical concerns is David Mora, LMS Administrator, [email protected] or 504.988.1342 (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. CT).
