Welcome to the January Issue of HIIN The Know !
HIIN The Know is your monthly guide to important HIIN resources. Here, you can quickly access information on improvement tools, resources, data, upcoming learning events, best practices, and success stories.

Each issue will focus on a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) priority topic to expand national progress toward better patient care and reduce preventable patient harm.

This month, HIIN The Know focuses on antibiotic stewardship, which is a factor in addressing the spread of healthcare-associated infections. Antibiotic stewardship is defined as promoting appropriate antibiotic selection in order to improve clinical outcomes, reduce antibiotic resistance, and lower unnecessary costs. As part of the HIIN, your hospital has access to no-cost antibiotic stewardship resources.

Our experienced staff of advisors, infection preventionists, and our pharmacist can offer one-on-one coaching and antibiotic stewardship program gap analysis. Please reach out to your Clinical Improvement Advisor to receive your personalized,
no-cost assistance.

Do you want to know how your hospital is performing relative to other hospitals in the HSAG HIIN? Soon you can! The interactive HIIN Comparison Dashboard allows your hospital to select from a list of specific measures to display a comparison of your hospital to three aggregate peer groups (all HSAG HIIN hospitals, a hospital characteristics peer group, and a regional peer group) and provides your hospital’s progress toward the improvement goal in comparison to the peer groups.
Coming Soon—Hospital Readmission Reports
To continue monitoring progress on readmissions, the HSAG HIIN will be disseminating another Readmission Feedback Report in February. Update Your Hospital's NHSN Consent with Release of NHSN 8.8.1

On the January 23 release of NHSN 8.8.1, all hospitals that have enrolled in NHSN prior to December 2, 2017, should agree to the newly updated consent form for each component. Failure to do this by April 14, 2018, will put the hospital at risk of losing access to NHSN. Per NHSN, once the consent form is available on January 23, an alert will appear on all NHSN component home pages and primary contacts and facility administrators will receive an email notification. Please direct any questions to [email protected] with the subject line "NHSN Reconsent."
