We are very happy to announce three new members to The Jazz Club’s Board of Directors. They are Mark Gruder of Sarasota; Debbie Silver of University Park; and, Taylor Wald of Bradenton.

Each has been an active member in recent years. Debbie is also a “Lifetime”member of The Jazz Club. We look forward to their leadership as Board members.

We are less happy to share that we recently lost a Board member. Lori Aberle Gentile has taken a full time position with the Women's Resource Center of Sarasota as their new Regional Director of Client Services. Our loss is certainly their gain. We thank Lori for her many leadership contributions to The Jazz Club and we wish her well in her new position.

22 New Members Join This Summer!
The Club Now at 718 Members
That's an increase of 281 new members since last December. We still have a way to go to achieve our Goal of 1,000 Members by our 40th Festival in March 2020
Is It Your Time To Renew Membership?
If you are a JCS member you should have recently received a letter with your new Membership Card and unique Member Code.

That RED four-letter code is important because that's what you need to obtain your discounts on many Jazz Club events.
The other important information on your card is your Membership Type and your Annual Renewal Date. About 400 of our current members are scheduled to renew now in September or October, and about half of you have already responded to the letter and have renewed. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Each month we will send out renewal reminders, and if you should forget to renew on time we will allow about a one month grace period before we deactivate the member code. If you should renew late your Renewal Date DOES NOT CHANGE.

If you are a member but you did not receive a letter and a new member card please send us a note with your name(s), full postal address and your best email address. Send it to:

Or Mail it to our office at 330 S. Pineapple Ave, Sarasota, FL 34236

South County Jazz Club
Closes Its Doors

We need to share with you some very unfortunate news. It was with shock and
deep regret that we learned earlier this summer that the South County Jazz Club was
ending its operation. Frankly, this serves as a wake-up call to all volunteer organizations
whose purpose is to preserve and promote Jazz in our local communities.
We were pleased to learn that jazz concerts may continue to be privately produced in the "south county" area. We look forward to learning more about that and we pledge to support those efforts in any way that we can.

South County’s decision also underscores our own struggles at The Jazz Club of Sarasota and the concerns that we have for our future. It points to the critical importance of our membership campaign, which now stands at 718 members, up from 437 last December. We need to
reach 1,000 members this year to help secure The Jazz Club of Sarasota for another 40 years. With your help we will do just that!

We invite and encourage former South County Jazz Club members to consider joining the Jazz Club of Sarasota. Membrship information can be found below at the end of this newsletter.
Fall Issue:
"Sounds Magazine"
You will soon be able to read the latest version of our Jazz Club magazine on the club website. Hard copies will be available while they last in the club office and at many of our events.

The cover story features our 2019 Scholarship winners. With lots more inside!

We want to thank editor Susan Leavis and all those that contributed to the issue for their fine work!
2020 Scholaship Campaign Begins
Help us reach our $25,000 Goal for 2020!
The purpose of the scholarship program of the Jazz Club of Sarasota is to further an understanding of jazz and to develop performance skills in the field of jazz. Residents of Southwest Florida, who are high school seniors or current college students, will be considered for one of our merit scholarships. College students may reapply for a scholarship each year of undergraduate study. Applications may be submitted electronically or via mail and must include audition performances, statement of goals, and recommendations. Applications will be available January 1st on the Jazz Club website and the submission deadline is April 1st.
