City Council Approves the Purchase of the Luxury Inn


On Tuesday, September 16, 2022, City Council unanimously approved the $16.5 million purchase of the Luxury Inn - a 78-room hotel at 5950 Long Beach Blvd. in an effort to both address homelessness and improve quality of life. The housing facility is expected to open in October 2023, with a prioritization on people who have been homeless over a year and have a mental disability. There will be on-site case management to help people facing mental health problems and to assist in finding permanent housing. This is part of Project Homekey, an effort to address persons experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. Sponsors of this item are the Economic Development Department and Health and Human Service Department.

Long Beach City Council Adopts Fiscal Year 2023 Budget


On Tuesday, September 16, 2022, City Council voted to adopt the City of Long Beach’s $3.2 billion budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2023. The Adopted FY 23 Budget continues the prioritization of significant pandemic recovery support for residents and business; implements new forward-thinking initiatives that promote safety, health and quality of life; and makes strong investments in the City’s infrastructure.

Long Beach Achieves Six-Star Status, Named 2022 Digital Inclusion Trailblazer


The City of Long Beach was named a 2022 Digital Inclusion Trailblazer by the National Digital Inclusion Alliance for bringing digital access to minority groups lacking internet.

The achievement was made possible by the city’s Digital Inclusion Initiative, which has addressed the digital divide facing groups less likely to have wireless internet access.
