Hello Lions,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year. Classes begin on Monday and there is a wealth of information in this newsletter (bell schedules, bus schedules, attendance calendars, the absence reporting form, the universal meal form, Data Confirmation steps, and more) to help get everyone off to a good start.

The entire La Vista/La Sierra staff came back to campus this week to engage in professional development designed to increase student learning. We focused on training in our four core areas:
  1. Highly Effective Instructional Practices
  2. Technology Educational Applications
  3. Social Emotional Learning
  4. Safety
These values drive everything we do to help our students meet their goals and graduate on time!

And we even had time to take a staff picture:)
We have a whole new group of students starting at La Vista/La Sierra on Monday. They came to orientations this summer to register (see below). We are excited to add these new students and families to the Lion's Pride.
Please enjoy your last week of summer vacation and we'll see you on Monday. It's going to be a great year!

Roar!

For the 2022-23 school year, FJUHSD was approved to implement Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) at Buena Park, Fullerton Union, La Habra, and La Vista High Schools. Parents with students who attend these schools will not be required to complete a lunch application form. Conversely, FJUHSD was not approved for CEP for Sunny Hills, Sonora, and Troy High Schools. While meals will continue to be served to students at no cost at non-CEP schools, the District will be encouraging parents who may qualify for free and reduced meals to complete a 2022-23 lunch application. The District Food Services team is here to support. Please contact us for questions or assistance at (714) 870-2820 or by email at foodservices@fjuhsd.org.

Dear FJUHSD Families,

This past year may have presented a variety of difficulties for students and their families. Some of us, including our students, are experiencing fatigue in response to the pandemic and other factors. Some students are disconnecting (or disengaging) and may find it hard to motivate ourselves and engage in school. Before the pandemic, one in four may have needed help maintaining our mental health. Those numbers are on the rise and reaching higher levels due to limited in-person connections to people, places, and things that help us stay healthy.

As our district works in accordance with state and local guidelines to safely reopen campuses we know that the process is challenging and many in our community are in need of help.

If a student or family member is in need of support or are worried about a loved one, Care Solace can help students and their families find mental health and substance use treatment options matched to your needs regardless of the circumstance.

FJUHSD students, staff, and families can use Care Solace at no charge to them. Care Solace’s team is available 24/7 and can support students and families in any language.
