HELP US SPREAD THE LOVE...AND AWARENESS!
|
|
|
Would you be willing to help spread the word? With Covid closing events and people staying out of stores and offices, it's been hard to inform the public of our existence and the many great dogs we have for adoption. But as events and businesses open up it’s time to catch up!!
WAMAL is experiencing an unprecedented high rate of dogs needing to come into rescue. This is not unique to us; I am hearing similar stories from the rescue/shelter community nationwide.
|
|
|
And, sadly at the same time, we have a lower-than-average number of interested adopters. We need to reach new adopters and fosters!
So, here is my ask: If I send you some flyers, postcards and/or business cards, would you be willing to display them at your work, vet, local coffeeshop, pet store, anywhere you frequent? I know we have fans nationwide (and worldwide too!) but this is limited to our service area of Washington and Oregon.
So, if you want to help spread the word and live in Washington or Oregon, please email me at MalHappyTails@gmail.com or click the button below to let me know you can help! I will reply to get your mailing address and what PR materials you’d like. Help us become more visible. Our pups and I greatly appreciate it!!

OWNER RESOURCES TEAM MEMBERS NEEDED!
|
|
|
WAMAL is being flooded with requests from people who feel they need help with re-homing their Mals. The Owner Resources Team interacts with people who are seeking to rehome a dog in their care. Team members provide information to owners about resources that may help with keeping the pup in its current home or re-homing options.
You will be joining an established team, so the estimated time requirement is 3-5 hours/week. This may fluctuate depending on the number of inquiries and schedules of other team members.
Can’t adopt or foster? Then this is a great way to get involved in the workings of rescue! If you are interested or want more info, please email me at MalHappyTails@gmail.com or click the button below

Oh hey there! My name is Farah and I'm told I make a great pillow. Sure I've put on a few pounds recently, but that's due to being on steroids for allergy management. I'm a sweet 5 year old pup and let's all just acknowledge that I'm a beauty!
I'm looking for a foster or adopter who will help me switch to a better allergy control routine, and who will take me for some exercise so I can regain my girlish figure - I'd especially love to go romp in the snow! I ride well in the car, I'm very loving, and I enjoy playing with other pups!
Are you the one I'm looking for? Please foster or adopt me - I'd be forever grateful!

Hi, I'm Remus! I'm a handsome, happy 8 year old. I already walk really well on leash, and being treat-motivated I'm also easy to train!
WAMAL saved me from a high-kill shelter and now I'm looking for a family of my own who I can take for hikes and outdoor playtime - I'm past that tiresome "crazy youngster" phase but I still want to be active! I'm loving and affectionate towards people and I get along well with other respectful dogs too!
Won't you consider fostering or adopting me? I would give you more love than you could ever imagine!

While these showcased dogs - along with all of our WAMAL dogs - are ultimately looking for a forever home, many of them including Farah and Remus could also use a foster home in the meantime. Being in a foster home rather than a kennel can make a huge difference for a rescue dog - helping them to build or maintain their social skills; ensuring they remain active and healthy; and working with them on training that will ultimately make them more adoptable. Even if you can't adopt right now please consider signing up as a foster. Whether you foster long term, or even just for a few weeks for things like spay/neuter recovery, you'd be making a huge positive impact in the lives of these wonderful dogs!

Our volunteers are our life blood—after all, we are a 100% volunteer run organization! I’d like to introduce you to Kim Taylor. Kim comes from a long history with northern breed rescue, first in Arizona, then becoming involved with WAMAL in 2019 when she and her husband Zach answered the call for volunteer help at a work party at our Malley Valley kennel.
Since then, Kim has volunteered at WAMAL events and joined the Ambassadog team, who bring their well-socialized dogs to events in order to provide that fuzzy hands-on experience and - let’s face it - are true magnets of attention.
Kim has also fostered, foster-failed (adopted 3 of her WAMAL fosters), and more recently led the search for Mals who escaped from a sister rescue in a remote and forested area. These dogs were incredibly fearful of humans and worked hard to stay out of sight. For this search, Kim consulted with lost dog/trapping experts, set-up trail cameras to monitor movements, coordinated with a drone pilot, set up an enclosure trap, and secured volunteers to set out food at regular intervals to establish a feeding pattern to aid in capture. She and a group of dedicated volunteers held many all-night stake outs in order to be able to respond immediately once the trap was set and triggered. The successful capture led to these 2 dogs finding their furever homes—with Kim and Zach! Their home is now full of happy pups—9 to be exact! Six Mals, 2 huskies and one Newfie!! In Kim’s ‘spare’ time she works as a surgical team vet assistant at a specialty veterinary hospital in Seattle.
When I asked what draws her to rescue, Kim replied “I want to give back. I believe in what WAMAL is doing. I’ve been to your kennel (Malley Valley) and have seen your dedication to these pups, some having been with you a very long time. WAMAL just doesn’t give up on them.”
Thank you, Kim, for your kind words and for your incredible passion for helping these magical furry beings! WAMAL is honored to have you as part of our pack!!
