WELCOME TO SCOTT HAMILTON SKATING ACADEMY!
Dear Parents and Skaters,

A warm welcome to the Scott Hamilton Skating Academy! Our mission is to make skating available to people of all ages, descriptions & ambitions. Mostly it's about having fun! Scott's brand is simple and clear... Skating is fun! The joy and positive approach our entire staff embody makes the experience! Families find us because of the man himself - Scott Hamilton, a true champion of the sport. They stay because of the culture created at the Scott Hamilton Skating Academy and Ford Ice Center - joy on and off the ice!

During your registration process, each skater should have received registration confirmations with class times and dates. If not, no worries, email me Paula Trujillo - Manager of Scott Hamilton Skating Academy to receive a new copy of your confirmation.

We welcome you to our beautiful state-of-the art Ford Ice Center! We are located at 5264 Hickory Hollow Pkwy, Antioch, TN 37013 (located behind the Global Mall - follow the service road around to the back)
NEXT STEPS - WE GOT YOU!
OUR GUIDE TO GET YOUR SKATER ON THE RIGHT SKATE!
STEP 1 - WAIVER/RELEASE
  • EVERY LEARN TO SKATE PARTICIPANT MUST HAVE A WAIVER ON FILE! (Waiver is good from Jan 1st through Dec 31st each year)
  • Before you join us for your ice time in 2019, please take a moment to sign our 2019 waiver. Every customer, no matter what program you're attending, must sign a waiver for the new year. As a valued Ford Ice Center guest, we want to extend the opportunity to you to sign your 2019 waiver at home, before your ice time, to skip the lines at Ford Ice Center. Once you sign your 2019 waiver for your family, you won't have to sign another until 2020!

EQUIPMENT AND RECOMMENDED CLOTHING LIST HOW TO PROPERLY TIE SKATES
EQUIPMENT - HOW TO TIE SKATES PROPERLY SO YOUR SKATER IS SET UP FOR SUCCESS!
  • Fitting Skates - Rule of thumb - "the closer the fit, the more control" Skates should keep feet snug and immobile, but toes should be able to wiggle a touch!
  • Lacing Skates -
  • Tab the heel way back into the boot, gently pull the tongue up and secure it straight up and down before tucking it against the foot.
  • Pull the second or third set of laces from the bottom tightly to close the boot well over the front of the foot.
  • Laces should be snug through the ankle are and bottom 2 sets of hooks. The top 2 hooks can be a touch looser to keep the ankle flexible!
  • Never walk on hard surfaces, metal bleachers or concrete with skates on, it ruins the blade and creates an unsuccessful time on the ice!

RECOMMENDED ATTIRE!
The ice rink is chilly! To ensure all skaters are prepared, we designed this list of recommended clothing and equipment. When our skaters are warm and safe, they are "free to be" and it speeds up the learning process!
  • Helmet (or bike helmet) Strongly recommended
  • Hockey skates (or rentals) for Hockey 1-4 Levels. (Helmet is mandatory for Hockey 1-4)
  • Gloves
  • Long sleeves
  • Pants (No jeans)
  • Winter jacket/fleece top
  • Long thin socks (thick socks limit support and create unwanted bumps inside the skate)
  • Adults/Teens:
  • Long sleeves
  • Pants
  • Helmet/knit cap
  • Wrist guards
