Welcome to September Council Connect

President's Message - Judy Weston

Honey Bees and Faith

Last spring, I received an email from Stacey Parr in Kenesaw at Sacred Heart Parish asking me if I would be a mentor for her as she works her beehives. Of course, I said yes! I was able to visit her hive in a soybean field and visited with her over some thoughts and ideas. The experience was beautiful as it was on the Solemnity of the Holy Assumption. How fitting it was sitting in a field and looking at bees to reflect on these little creatures and our faith

Val Able - This is what it is all about.

Just a few days ago, I was sitting by myself at a little table next to a coffee shop in Orlando, Florida.

A sweet young woman came up to me, introduced herself, and asked where she could find registration for the NCCW Convention. I invited her to sit for a while and she shared with me her life and love for the Catholic faith.

While we were visiting, Sr. Pamela came and asked to sit with us. We welcomed her and found out she was going to be one of our presenters the next day. She was a dynamic speaker and helped us reflect on opportunities taken and opportunities lost. As we shared our faith journeys with each other,

we laughed and became instant sisters in Christ.

During the Conference, no matter where we were; in the elevator, exhibit room, dining, or just walking in the halls, we were surrounded with like-minded, faith filled women who were in love with Christ. This is what being a part of Council is all about. We are sisters in Christ. Serving our Lord, loving our Lord, and holding our faith close to our hearts. As we share our faith journeys and walk together, we become sisters for life and what a beautiful, joyous life it is!

God bless you all,

Your sister in Christ,

Val Able, LDCCW Pres.-Elect

Spirituality -Barb Kadlec & Shelly Chloupek

Many of you, if not all of you, have had prayers offered for you on numerous occasions for various reasons. Maybe it was your birthday or anniversary, or when you had a hospitalization or procedure done, maybe it was when you had a big decision to make and you asked someone to pray for you for a good outcome, or maybe someone prayed for you just because they thought about you. Whatever the reason for the prayers, you welcomed them and

expressed your thankfulness for them saying, “Yes, I needed them, they helped me tremendously, thank you so very much for thinking of me.”

There is a program in our diocese in which we pray individually for someone, not just anyone, but a specific priest in the Lincoln Diocese. Priests are on the front lines and need our prayers constantly. The evil one is trying his hardest to deter each priest away from his vocation. For he knows – No Priest, No Eucharist!

Divine Mercy - Bonnie Damrow

Divine Mercy

Sunday August 10 2:47 a.m. the 2nd night of stormy weather, vicious winds. I looked at my phone to see it was 2:47 a.m. close to the 3 o'clock hour. Thoughts of Jesus's suffering and agony on the Cross for us came to mind, Jesus last words and then the thunder and lightning were all reminders of what He did for each one of us. The Divine Mercy Chaplet was so important that night, and surrendering it all to Him. I pray you all remained safe from the storm.

Service - Joyce Reich

Fall is quickly approaching, and the cooler temperatures will be welcomed with sweaters, football games, and the crunch of falling leaves.

“We are not called upon to do all the good that is possible, but only that which we can do.’ - Theodore Guerin. Keep this is mind when planning your Corporal Works of Mercy. What you may consider small or perhaps insignificant can mean the world to someone. Good intentions don’t get the job done but action does. Make your projects achievable and they will develop into great things.

It is time to order your kits (boxes) for Box of Joy if you are participating in that project. With your help of filling small boxes with toys and personal items for children in impoverished countries, many may receive a Christmas present that they otherwise would not receive. Kits may be ordered online at crosscatholic.org (Cross Catholic Outreach). We will again have a drop off center at the John XXIII Center in Lincoln.

You can bring used eyeglasses and rosaries to the Fall Meeting on September 13 and they will be distributed where needed. Also, Father McQuire can use reading material for the imprisoned, especially Spanish resources.

“Our life spreads light when it is given is service. The secret of joy is living to serve.” - Pope Frances

50 Days For 50 States

LDCCW would like to invite everyone to a special time of prayer for our country. We will begin on Sept. 13, 2025 concluding on Nov. 1, 2025. A different state will be offered up in prayer on each day during this 50-day period.

Let us storm heaven on behalf of our nation, remembering God's promises - "and if My people, upon whom My name has been pronounced, humble themselves and pray, and seek My presence and turn from their evil ways, I will hear them from heaven and pardon their sins and revive their land,"

2 Chronicles 7:14

President's Project:

Adopt a Pregnancy Center

Please choose a Pregnancy Center you would like to support. Many of those who volunteer would enjoy the personal connection from their local Parish Council of Catholic Women (PCCW). We currently have lists from pregnancy centers and one from St. Gianna for their apartment needs. Please use the list as a reference of what to purchase. If you wish to send money to the Pregnancy Center please send the money  directly to Pregnancy Center

The spiritual needs of the centers are important as well. Use the Spiritual Bouquet cards and send them to your local pregnancy center and let them know they are receiving  spiritual cover to do their work.

Our Lady of Sorrows

The Seven Sorrows of Mary, or Dolors, are significant events in the life of the Virgin Mary that caused her deep

suffering and pain, particularly in relation to the Passion and death of her son,

Jesus Christ. This popular devotion is often prayed as a rosary or chaplet and

includes meditations on seven specific events. Click on the picture for the meditations and its benefits.
