Alumni Spotlight: Mrs. Cathy Karcher (Loots)

Class of '82

Cathy Karcher (Loots) has quite a history with the Mequon-Thiensville School District! After graduating from Homestead High School in 1982, Mrs. Karcher returned back to the district in 1989 to teach Grades 1 and 2 at Range Line Elementary School. In 1995, Cathy transitioned over to Donges Bay Elementary School, where she has taught Grades 2 and 3 ever since. Now, she is celebrating her upcoming retirement from MTSD after 32 years! In addition to this exciting milestone, Cathy is helping plan her graduating class' upcoming 40th reunion!

Save the Date: Districtwide Referendum Project Open House on Thursday, August 11

The new and improved music room at Donges Bay Elementary School

On Thursday, August 11, 2022, the Mequon-Thiensville School District will be holding a district-wide open house to showcase the completed construction and renovation at all six of our schools as a result of the 2020 Referendum Project. We are looking forward to opening our schools so that all families and community members can see the beautiful new spaces that were created and enhanced thanks to the support of the greater MTSD community. Celebrating the Outstanding Achievements of Our Current Mighty Highlanders

Adam Garsha, Sarah Li, and Ethan Wang - 2022 National Merit Scholarship Winners

Homestead High School is proud to announce that seniors Adam Garsha, Siyu (Sarah) Li, and Ethan Wang have been named 2022 National Merit Scholarship Winners. Li was the recipient of a corporate National Merit Rockwell Automation Scholarship. When the National Merit Semifinalists were announced in September, Homestead boasted the greatest number of semifinalists of Ozaukee County public high schools with eight total semifinalists.

Ellie Sprinkmann - 2022 Herb Kohl Education Foundation Scholarship

Homestead High School is proud to announce that senior Ellie Sprinkmann is a 2022 recipient of a Herb Kohl Education Foundation Scholarship. Sprinkmann is one of 174 high school seniors across the state of Wisconsin who was selected to receive the award and $10,000 scholarship.

Nathan Moldavsky - WSMA Composition Competition Winner

Homestead junior Nathan Moldavsky recently placed first in the Wisconsin School Music Association’s (WSMA) Statewide composition competition. Hundreds of student compositions were submitted from all across Wisconsin. Nathan's composition Delphis was selected in the High School instrumental division.

Madeline Frank, Cecilia Wenzler, Sheba Bentum-Mensah, and Abby Horwitz - Aspirations in Computing Award Winners

Four students, Madeline Frank, Cecilia Wenzler, Sheba Bentum-Mensah, and Abby Horwitz, won Aspirations in Computing Awards from the NCWIT based on their aspirations and aptitude in technology and computing, as demonstrated by their experience, computer-related activities, leadership, tenacity in the face of challenges, and their post-secondary plans.

Mentorship Opportunities at MTSD

The Mequon-Thiensville School District operates a robust Academic & Career Planning program for our students in grades 6-12. As part of this program, we offer Coffee with a Career Mentor and Career Path Series. The purpose of these series is to provide students with opportunities to interact with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and occupations. They also help students understand and draw connections between what they are currently learning in school and their future career identity.
