As Martin Luther King Jr. said: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." In today's WelcomeLaw Wednesday, Francine Griesing addresses seeking justice for those who face discrimination and harassment due to their race, gender, and/or sexual orientation. She introduces an article on the momentous Supreme Court decision protecting the civil rights of the LBGTQ+ community and a piece on a team member's experience growing up as a black woman in America. In addition, we share the first edition of our Griesing Law Book Review Series where we discuss books related to pressing legal issues.
Another Historic June for Civil Rights: What Bostock Means for the LGBTQ+ Community
Keith Petersen gives a brief history of the monumental victories for American civil rights that happened in June and delves into the significance of the Supreme Court opinion in Bostock v. Clayton County as it relates to coverage for members of the LGBTQ+ community under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Realizing “A Dream Deferred”: The Time is Now to Look Racism in the Eye
Now more than ever, America has started to ask necessary questions and to listen to and learn from the experiences of black Americans. Melissa H. Davis shares her story growing up as a black woman in the south including her experiences being racially profiled and stereotyped. She also shares advice on how to approach the topic of race in order to make change and move forward.
How “One Very, Very Strange Year at Uber” Turned into a Movement 
In our first segment, Pamela M. Harper reviews " Whistleblower, My Journey To Silicon Valley and Fight for Justice at Uber." The book chronicles software engineer Susan Fowler's journey overcoming numerous obstacles from rising out of poverty to joining tech giant, Uber, where she faced and witnessed rampant gender discrimination. Her courage and outspokenness shined a lens on sexual harassment in the workplace and sexism in the technology industry.

On June 19, 1865 , Texas became the final state in the U.S. to end slavery. In honor and recognition of Juneteenth, the office will be closed this Friday.
On June 26, 2015 , in  Obergefell v. Hodges , the right of same-sex couples to marry is guaranteed by the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment.
