Greetings!
The "changing of guards" in the Consulate is in full swing. This week we welcomed the new Deputy Consul General, Mr. Elad Strohmayer, who came to us straight from Angola, where he served as Deputy Chief of Mission at Israel's Embassy. Elad has previous experience in the US from the time when he worked supervising youth leaders for the Jewish Agency.
Following his arrival, friends and professional contacts were invited to an "Open House" reception to both say goodbye to Dr. Shirley and Consul General Daniel Kutner, as well as welcoming Elad. It was a lovely event and the Kutners were moved by the expressions of friendship of the more than a hundred visitors.
Shabbat Shalom
and have a wonderful weekend

Toledo Champions Journey to Israel wins Murrow Award
The Consulate would like to congratulate Anthony Knopps, Political Director at SJL Broadcasting, Anchor Diane Larson, Photojournalist Kevin Beining and the dedicated news team of WTVG-TV - Toledo, OH for being awarded the distinguished Edward R.Murrow Award for excellence in the Video News Documentary category.
Their entry chronicled the trip of the University of Toledo Women's Basketball team, the 2011 WNIT National Champions to Israel.
Star player and tournament MVP Naama Shafir is a native of Hoshaya, Israel. During their 11 days in Israel, the team toured Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem and other parts of Israel, played two exhibition games against an Israeli select team and were the guests of honor at a special banquet at Shafir's home. The trip gave these student-athletes a greater appreciation of Jewish culture and traditions, many of which are now a part of their lives thanks to Shafir's influence.
