Dear Student Affairs Team,

We are excited to share that the Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) - Advising & Student Planning has been filled. Please join us in warmly welcoming Dr. Monique Johnson-Jones as our newest AVC!

Dr. Johnson-Jones most recently served as the Executive Dean of Academic Supports at ACC. She brings a proven record of innovation, leadership, and student-centered impact. Since coming to ACC in 2016, she has led initiatives that strengthen student engagement, learning support, and academic success, while also sharing her expertise as an Associate Adjunct Professor in Student Development.

Her career in higher education began at Lane College, where she advanced from her role as the Director of Freshman Studies to becoming the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs. In that role, she also served on the President’s Cabinet while continuing to lead the Freshman Studies and Testing programs. She later served as Director of STEM at Huston-Tillotson University, building strong industry partnerships to expand academic opportunities for underserved K–12 students. A proud native of Port Allen, Louisiana, Dr. Johnson-Jones holds degrees from Xavier University of Louisiana, the University of Memphis, and Union University.

Her new position is effective immediately, and she will begin overseeing the current structure, including Executive Deans, Campus Deans, and related areas, while also collaborating with her new team to shape the future direction of her portfolio.

We are thrilled to have Dr. Johnson-Jones step into this important role, and we look forward to the vision, energy, and expertise she will bring to our Student Affairs leadership team!

What's Next?

With Dr. Johnson-Jones’ promotion to AVC, the Executive Dean of Academic Support Services role is now vacant and will be filled through an internal posting. The position will be posted soon. We will add to our internal webpage, and you may also monitor the Workday Internal Job Postings if you're interested in applying.

To ensure continuity and steady progress during this transition, we are actively working with Human Resources to identify options that will provide consistent leadership support for the current Learning Support Services department. This will help maintain alignment and momentum as we move forward.

Secondly, as a reminder, our next Student Affairs Roundtables will take place on September 3rd and 4th at the Highland Campus. A link to RSVP will be coming soon. These in-person sessions will provide updates on our realignment progress, highlight current initiatives, and offer a space to engage directly with our Executive Deans and Change Management Lead. This is a valuable opportunity to ask questions, provide feedback on this next phase of change management, and stay connected to our shared mission.

Sincerely,

Shasta Buchanan, Ed.D.
