Last week, the Welcoming Redwood City group, led by Redwood City Together, held a celebration in honor of its 2025 Welcoming Star Awards. These awards are given to one organization and one individual each year in recognition of the best and most effective programs in our community that are actively creating a welcoming environment for all in innovative and inspiring ways.
This year’s organizational winner is Redwood City Public Library's Project READ. We are incredibly proud of the life-changing work that Project READ does every day for our community. Project READ provides free literacy tutoring to adults and academically at-risk youth in Redwood City, helping them build the skills to reach their educational and career goals. If you’d like to give back to Project READ, we’d love for you to consider becoming a volunteer tutor. There’s nothing quite like the joy of making a real difference in someone’s life — especially right here in our own community. Learn more and sign up here.
Also honored was the individual winner, Jane Slater, the founder and faculty advisor of the Sequoia High School Dream Club.
