My Commitment to Affirming Learning Spaces

Welcome back from Spring Break! I hope our students return full of rest, adventure, and/or growth - we missed them❤️

During break and through April, our community celebrates multiple holidays and observances such as (but not limited to) Ramadan, Easter, Passover, Transgender Day of Visibility, César Chávez Day, Autism Acceptance Month, Arab American Heritage Month, and Armenian History Month. It's important that CCUSD is a place where your identity is affirmed and meaningful civil discourse can occur, including respectful, sometimes uncomfortable, conversations and disagreements that shed light on differences while enhancing learning experiences. I remain steadfast in my priorities from my 2022 campaign for Achievement, Belonging, and Community. Committing to affirming, thriving learning spaces is a healthy, life-saving practice that we must act upon with our words and actions everyday. Education is the key to liberation and justice - when we know more, we can do better - together.

We have eleven weeks of school left this year and we will finish it strong! I love how our district has been moving forward in 2024. Three notable personnel updates since the beginning of the calendar year:

  • Experienced Interim Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, Pearl Iizuka joined us during Spring Break - please give her a warm welcome
  • Maintenance, Operations & Transportation Director Baker Alloush's presence has made responsive and visible improvements to our campuses
  • In May, Superintendent Dr. Brian Lucas will report on his first 100 days leading CCUSD

April is National Volunteer Month! The district relies on volunteers sharing their time, talent, and energy to advise in a variety of ways. Please join us to learn more - RSVP today!

Primary Election Results have been certified. Thank you for supporting our students with your vote to pass Measure E - funding essential capital improvements to all our school campuses!

I'm so proud of LA City Council District 14 candidate Ysabel Jurado for her first place finish in the Primary Election. She advances to the run-off in November. I spoke at her Filipino/a/x canvass kickoff and TFC News included parts of my speech when they featured her campaign in the run-up to Super Tuesday (click the video above to view). Please join me in supporting her and visit 🔗ysabeljurado.la for all the ways to help.
