Clinical Externship Opportunity!


Learning Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness Coaching for Reducing Sugar Intake


We are conducting an exciting digital clinical intervention study at UCSF/Sutter Health, which is funded by the NIH/NIDDK (PIs: Elissa Epel, Laura Schmidt, Jamey Schmidt). We are looking for qualified health counselors (who have 1-2 years of clinical training experience) to help run a brief digital motivational interviewing intervention to improve sugar-sweetened beverage consumption.

Featured AME Researcher: Katie E. Alegria, PhD.


Dr. Katie E. Alegria is a postdoctoral fellow with a Ph.D. in Psychological Sciences from the University of California, Merced. Her research program employs theoretical frameworks to inform interventions directed toward improving health outcomes for those who experience stress and health-related adversity, especially marginalized groups. Dr. Alegria works with Dr. Elissa Epel, of the UCSF AME Center, investigating research questions surrounding climate change distress, health inequities, and the relationship between diet and stress.

New AME Center Publications

In a recent study, AME researchers led by Dr. Elissa Hamlat examined if early adversity is associated with accelerated biological aging, in the form of early pubertal timing.

AME researchers examined the antibody response produced by adenovirus-based and mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines over time.


They also investigated how these responses varied by various different factors including sex, age, BMI, and smoking status.
