Unity Church Rochester NY

Hello Unity Church,

Sunday Feb 26, 10am

Welcoming the Stranger

Guest Speaker Reverend Steven Jarose

Unity honors the universal truths common to all faith traditions. One such principle is that of hospitality... extending warmth and welcome to others. Jesus is a wonderful example in this regard. Yet we live in a society fractured by division, hostility and hurt. To see the wholeness and goodness in others, we must open to God's loving presence in us. Welcoming The Stranger is both an inner and an outward experience. The more our light shines from within, the more the divine energy of Spirit can express itself naturally as it radiates outward to others.

Our talk on Sunday will explore the notion of the stranger and how we might befriend the many parts and pieces to ourselves in our quest for wholeness. In this way, we come to embrace the complete goodness in others and in all of creation.

Brief Speaker Bio

Reverend Steven Jarose has been a friend of Unity Rochester for many years. He was ordained in 1984 as a Minister of Spiritual Science, combining his love of people with his professional career as an educator and administrator in the field of Developmental Disabilities, Upon his retirement at age 55, he continued his advocacy work for the next 20 years as Director of the Rochester chapter of the National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI), whose mission is to end racism and all forms of oppression through the power of coalition building. Now semi-retired, Steve continues his ministry and community interests as a climate change activist, a group mediator and facilitator, gardener and husband to Marvin, as well as finding new ways to celebrate the wonder of nature in all her exuberant expressions.

Will you consider adding your time and talent to support and grow our church community by becoming a board member? Be part of our every growing expansion! See Rev. Barb or any current Board Member for your questions and qualification requirements. Email welcome.

Please discuss this with Rev. Barb.

From our Board President - Marketing UCGR

Our Board of Trustees got together on Feb 18 for a Marketing Workshop. The goal is to explore ideas on how to grow our membership and our financial security. Some ideas include defining target groups for marketing. What tools we might use to reach our target groups. Consider a name change away from Unity Church of Greater Rochester. The terms religion and church are usually based on rules and customs that are not attracting people in the 21st century. Church populations are dwindling across the country in increasing numbers. Many Unity churches do not use the word church in their name. The Fillmore’s never expected us to be churches. They considered themselves teachers and facilitators of study groups. The board welcomes your comments and ideas.

From the Prayer Chaplains

If anyone would like to receive a monthly prayer call from UCGR's Prayer Chaplains, please fill out a sheet by the Prayer Box in the back of the sanctuary and put it in the box or in the offering basket. It is our intention to include everyone. If you've been on our list and are not receiving calls, please let one of us know. We are in the process of updating our list.

Sunday School Program Changes

We are in the process of reassessing the program and once all is in alignment we can determine the next steps. Therefore, it is necessary to end our current Sunday School program and our last classes will be March 5 and March 19.  We still seek someone to manage the Sunday School program. See a Board member or email the office

A Message from our Coffee Hour Hostesses

We hope everyone is enjoying the Coffee Hour after the service. This is an opportunity for spending time with each other and having refreshments. The Coffee Girls want to say "Thank you" to everyone who has helped and donated to make this hour a celebration of community and love. We appreciate that not everyone is able to help or donate and that is perfectly fine; please always feel free to participate and enjoy fellowship and food. You can always invite a friend to join you for Sunday services and Coffee Hour!

Reminder: Books are available to take out for a 2 week time period. Enjoy!

Shared by Mike Gacek: This week the Northern Lights have been visible in the lower 48 states, at least for the most northern states. I have a friend who lives in Sun Valley, Idaho. He took this picture this past week at 5:06 am. I see Angel Wings. What do you see?
