Thank you to all who attended the Discover the Prairie Workshop! We had an amazing time exploring the beauty and importance of our remaining native prairies. We were thrilled to enjoy a guided hike through our stunning prairie ecosystem. Participants gained valuable insights into prairie ecology and the significance of conservation efforts.

As you walk through the trails of Prairie Woods, the sight of prairie flowers blooming serves as a reminder of the delicate balance of nature and the importance of conservation. Our dedicated team of volunteers and staff work tirelessly to maintain and protect these habitats, ensuring that future generations can experience them.

Thank you again for your participation and enthusiasm. We loved having you with us and look forward to seeing you at future events!

The Regal Fritillary Butterfly depends on native prairie habitats, which are now less than 1% of Minnesota's landscape. These butterflies need prairie areas to survive, and their future relies on conserving these precious habitats. 🦋

The Prairie Bird's Foot Violet is vital for the regal fritillary's larvae, which feed only on violets. In Minnesota, this violet is their main food source. Protecting these plants is crucial for the butterflies' survival, highlighting the need to conserve our native prairies. 🌸

The Showy Lady's Slipper: A June Bloom at Prairie Woods

This month, the enchanting Showy Lady's Slipper, Minnesota's state flower, began its bloom at PWELC. To ensure the preservation of these rare and beautiful flowers, the patches where they bloom are fenced off from deer and other wildlife. This protection allows the Showy Lady's Slipper to thrive undisturbed, showcasing its vibrant colors.
