Capitol Update

Here are some highlights from the Capitol last week. Permitting reform bill passes out of first House committee

  • The MN Chamber sent a letter to the House Taxes Committee supporting a bill that would phase out the state’s estate tax over a 10-year period
  • Last Thursday, the MN Chamber testified in support of HF 11, a bill to pause the Paid Family and Medical Leave mandate.
  • Last week, the MN Chamber submitted a letter in opposition to a Senate bill that would ban new billboards in Minnesota

If this is an area of our work that interests you, there are a few ways you can engage with us on advocacy.

  1. Attend our monthly Access & Issues meeting the 2nd Friday of the month at 8am via Zoom. You will not only hear local content and issues, but our Lakeville legislators join us as they are able each month for Capitol updates.
  2. Join myself and some other members at Chamber Day at the Capitol on April 3 (9am-2pm). We will hear from the MN Chamber, some of the leaders in each body, and talk individually with our Lakeville delegation.
  3. Share your stories with me. If there is legislation that has a direct impact on you, your employees and your clients, reach out to me to discuss so that I have those details when we are working with the MN Chamber and our legislators during session.

They came, they ate,

they connected..

Thank you all for supporting Buffalo Wild Wings this month! We hope you made some good connections.

See you at the next one!

February Class in the Books

This month was another great session! We started at Hearth & Home Technologies where we were treated to a delicious lunch, courtesy of Culver’s Lakeville.

Then, Hannah Peterson, of Hearth & Home Technologies, spoke to us about the 8 Pillars of Trust and how high trust teams bring out the best in an organization.

After that we headed to the Capitol to meet with our Lakeville legislators before getting a tour of the State Capitol building! What a fun afternoon. Thank you to our series sponsor, Loeffler Construction & Consulting. We cannot believe there are only three sessions left! We are working on the program for 2025-26 and expect applications to go LIVE on June 1!

Deadline March 31

As a member of the Lakeville Area Chamber Foundation Board of Directors, Bob Curtis is proud to support the Foundation with a $1000 scholarship to a Lakeville Area Schools (ISD194) graduating high school senior to pursue continuing education or obtain certain industry certifications. If you have a Lakeville senior in your life, click image to apply. If you would like to learn more about donating a named scholarship, click here for details.

We are SOLD OUT, sort of,

but now not really...

So, for the first time in the 22-year history of the home, landscape and community expo we have completely filled the commons and the main gym at Lakeville North. There are over 120 vendors, in all categories, at the show this year.

So, what does that mean?

  1. The (first) good news is that North has an auxiliary gym!
  2. The (second) good news is that with this many signed up so early we have some extra $$ to increase our marketing even more this year. We are adding commercials and some other marketing avenues to the mix this year so it should be a great show for all!

This show is a good fit for any business whose target audience is local residents. And, if you did not know this fun fact – our show is designed so that attendees wind their way past every single booth!
