Wellness Tip of the Week
Sleep for mental health
It is a very commonly known fact that adults need 6-7 hours of sleep consistently to improve our health. Proper sleep helps maintain the immune system, metabolic functions, body weight, and impacts brain functions. These include responses to stress, regulating emotions, and keeping memories intact. Even though the amount of sleep we get is important, the quality of sleep is what makes the difference in our physical and mental health. If you are not feeling rested the next day or wake up frequently throughout the night you may not be getting good quality sleep. Waking up frequently, not being able to fall asleep, not feeling rested could be caused by a sleeping disorder. Sleeping disorders often go hand in hand with those who have a mental health diagnosis such as depression, bipolar, anxiety, and ADHD. Furthermore, it is still being researched but sleep deprivation could also be one factor leading to mental health disorders.


Outdoor physical activities to try:
It’s mud run season again! Go play in the mud at the Mud Factor Omaha 2021 at the Bellevue Berry and Pumpkin Ranch. This fun run occurs on Sunday May 23rd from 10am to 12pm. Bring the whole family to tackle the obstacles (slides too) and get muddy with you as there is a kid and family wave/course as well. Register before it sells out.

Want to get muddy in Iowa? Never fear, The Ridge Run is coming to Garwin Iowa on June 12th. They describe their run as an “obstacle course race that is designed for every athletic condition in mind with the goal of perpetual improvement no matter where you are at in your conditioning”, even if that starting from nothing. It may have mentioned free beer. Find out when you register yourself or a team.

2021 virtual Trek Up the Tower registration is open NOW through May 5!
