Over the past several years, while maintaining a private practice, Dr. Rosen has traveled nationally and internationally teaching SOT? Chiropractic and Pediatrics. In an attempt to make his teachings more available to the chiropractic profession he has complied a series of DVD's and manuals of his work. These DVD's and manuals are a compilation of years of teaching and lecturing. It is his intention to keep the work of Major DeJarnette, DC alive, and forever available to chiropractors. He is also dedicated to giving chiropractors the tools and skills necessary to take care of children and to inspire them to expand this branch of chiropractic.

Over the past 34 years Dr. Rosen has taught pediatrics, craniopathy, SOT, practice management and chiropractic philosophy nationally and internationally to thousands of chiropractors and chiropractic students.

While lecturing and teaching to chiropractors and the public he has compiled thousands of hours of presentations on chiropractic technique, research and evidence based protocols. His unique approach to chiropractic and the care of the pediatric population is evidenced in his published books, DVDs and professional articles.

Currently, besides his own seminar programs, he is teaching for the International Pediatric Chiropractic Association (ICPA) as part of their advanced certification program.

Welcome,

Summer is upon us and we can feel a change in our attitude and activity.  As we embrace this time of year in New England we can now set aside some time for slowing down, relaxing and healing.  Getting outside, increasing our activity level and eating fresh fruits and vegetables are all part of the restorative process.  During this active time remember to have your nervous system and spine checked so that you can safely maintain this increased activity level.

We at Wellesley Chiropractic Office offer specialized chiropractic care for all ages.  Our techniques have been proven safe and effective for over 32 years.  If you have a healthcare issue, or you just want to perform and function at your best, we are here to help you reach your goals.  If you would like more information or to schedule and appointment please contact our office.

Sincerely,
Martin Rosen and Nancy Watson, DCs

Why Choose Chiropractic Care for Your Children

Martin Rosen, DC

The period from birth to age two may be the most dynamic and important phase of postnatal brain development in humans. This period is likely to be critical in neurodevelopmental disorders.  There is a dramatic increase in overall brain size during this period, with the brain reaching 80-90% of adult volume by age two

The large increase in total brain volume in the first year of life (101%) suggests that this is a critical period of development.  Disruption of developmental processes at this time, as the result of innate genetic abnormalities or as a consequence of environmental insults, may have long-lasting or permanent effects on brain structure and function.  Concurrent with the rapid pace of structural brain development is an equally rapid development of a wide range of cognitive and motor functions.  These facts suggests that there is a pressing clinical need to identify children at risk for developmental disorders within the first year of life and to initiate appropriate interventions.

"Traumatization of the suboccipital structures inhibits functioning of the proprioceptive feedback loops. The motor development, though preprogrammed, cannot develop normally. These systems are fault tolerant and able to overcome considerable difficulties and restricted working conditions. But the price for this is a reduced capacity to absorb additional stress later. These children may show only minor symptoms in the first months of their life but later on at the age of 5 or 6 they suffer from headaches, postural problems or diffuse symptoms like sleep disorders, being unable to concentrate etc." Journal of Manual Medicine, Springer - Velag 1992

Chiropractic is the only profession that specializes in the detection and correction of interferences to the nervous system's growth and development caused by aberrant biomechanical insults to the spine and cranium (subluxations).  These neurophysiological disruptions to the normal neurological growth and functional capability of the nervous system globally affect a child's health and innate capacity.  Once these subluxations are removed your child has the greatest opportunity to express their full potential - physically, emotionally and mentally.

Nutrition Corner - Omega 3's  - Defend Against Environmental Stress

Omega-3 fatty acids (as found in EPO and Flax Seed Oil), one of the most popular supplements today, are essential to building cell membranes. Because the body doesn't naturally produce omega-3s, we have to get them through diet, but few foods contain significant amounts. Fatty fish is high in omega-3s - a half fillet of wild salmon contains up to 4,000 milligrams - but if you don't eat at least two servings weekly or consume flaxseeds, nuts, or canola oil daily, you're most likely deficient.

Doctors say omega-3 supplements are key not only to cell health but also to keeping the heart healthy by reducing blood triglycerides, which can cause arteries to harden. The evidence is so pervasive that in 2004 the FDA approved one of its rare health claims, allowing manufacturers to print on everything from fortified juice and eggs to chocolate bars that "omega-3s may lower the risk of coronary heart disease." Since then, more research supporting the claim has been conducted, including a 2008 Mayo Clinic study of 32,000 people showing that those who supplemented with 850 to 1,800 mg of omega-3s daily have up to 45 percent reduced risk of cardiovascular problems like heart attacks, and that taking a combination of supplemental omega-3s and statin drugs is more effective at treating heart disease than statins alone. Research continues to mount showing omega-3s can also help protect against arthritis, depression, dementia, and other cognitive problems. "Most Americans are deficient in omega-3s, which may account for the rise of asthma, coronary heart disease, many cancers, and neurodegenerative disease," Weil says.

Defend Against Environmental Stresses

Immune System
Allerplex - With the help of vitamins A and C, Allerplex supports the body's response to seasonal, environmental, and dietary stressors. This formula supports healthy liver function, the body's ability to manage mucus movement, and healthy lung and respiratory function.

Cal-Amo - Each serving provides approximately 100 mg calcium chloride
100 mg ammonium chloride to maintain proper pH balance.

Cessation of Seizures, Behavioral Disturbances and Improvement in Cognitive Developmental Delay Following Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care in a 2 Year Old: A Case Report

Austin J. Komarek DC, Nick Tedder DC, Adam Tedder DC

Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research ~ May 14, 2015 ~ Pages 14-18

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate and discuss the effect of knee-chest upper cervical chiropractic care on 2-year-old male patient with seizures, behavioral disturbances and cognitive developmental delay following head trauma.

Clinical Features: The patient is a 2-year old male who suffered with seizures, behavioral disturbances and cognitive developmental delays following head trauma. He experienced 1-3 seizures per week and on some occasions up to three per day. He was combative, angry and uncooperative with the parents. The patient had a developmental impairment of his language use. The parents sought chiropractic care one year and three months after the injury.

Intervention & Outcomes: After performing a case history, physical examination and chiropractic evaluation it was determined that the patient had a subluxation of the C1 (atlas) vertebra. The patient received knee-chest upper cervical chiropractic care for a period of 5.5 months, which amounted to a total of seven visits. He was checked for vertebral subluxation during every visit and was adjusted three times over the course of care. There was improvement and eventual cessation of his seizure activity following the chiropractic care. There was also improvement in the patient's behavior and cognitive development.

Conclusion: The findings presented in this case study suggest that upper cervical chiropractic adjustments may benefit patients who suffer from seizures, behavioral disturbances and developmental delay.
