Wellesley Books Newsletter
November 6th, 2019
Events      Book Clubs       Bookseller Picks      New Releases      For Kids      Gifts
By the time you read this newsletter, Wellesley Books may very well have sold out of our first shipment of the newest Keeper of the Lost Cities book. (If you're not sure what we're talking about, ask a 12-year-old.) The latest adventures of Greg Heffley and family are flying out our doors, as is the first installment of a new trilogy from Maggie Steifvater. You may know a young reader who remembers exactly when every hot new book is coming out (and won't hesitate to remind you), but, if you don't, why risk missing out? Pre-ordering with us is super easy. Tell us your name and number or e-mail address, and we'll call or e-mail you as soon as your book goes on sale. Sometimes an author even includes something special for readers who pre-order his or her new book, ranging from a signature to exclusive artwork. There's enough to remember already at this time of year!

Join Massachusetts author George Howe Colt to learn about one pivotal football game, and its relevance in the present day, in The Game. On November 23, 1968, there was a turbulent and memorable football game: the season-ending clash between Harvard and Yale.
The Game is the story of an iconic American year, as seen through the young men who lived it and were changed by it.

If you would like to purchase a signed copy of their forthcoming book, Sisters First, you may visit our website (please specify "signed copy" in the order comments at checkout), give us a call, or stop by the store. Call the store to be placed on our event wait list.

Monday, November 18th, 7:00 PM
Join author and editor Adrienne Brodeur as she presents one of the year's most talked-about memoirs (that's also a Wellesley Books staff favorite). Bookseller Recommendationsrecs
Lorna recommends:
Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson
What seems like the most unbelievable part (brother and sister spontaneously combust when emotional, yet are unharmed) becomes totally believable in the hands of Kevin Wilson, known for his humorous and intelligent novels The Family Fang and Perfect Little World. So enjoyable to read, with a fascinating cast of characters!
Rachael recommends:
Little Weirds by Jenny Slate
In Little Weirds, Jenny Slate embraces her weirdness with open arms and encourages others to do the same. It's clear that she has poured her heart and soul into this book. It's compulsively readable (you'll finish it in one sitting), relatable, and righteously angry at the state of the world we live in. Little Weirds is as much a collection of introspective essays as it is a call to arms for women to realize that nothing and no one can (or should) hold them back.
Sally recommends:
Fleishman is in Trouble by Taffy Brodesser-Akner
The story of Toby Fleishman--short, Jewish, doctor--and his marital troubles with his wife Rachel is witty, raunchy, endearing, and thought-provoking. It's the perfect combo of Roth, Franzen and Updike in the telling of a marriage from both sides. And it's also perfectly fabulous!

Anya and the Dragon by Sofiya Pasternack
If you're in the mood for a tale that is jam-packed with Eastern European folklore, magical creatures, terrifying vikings, unlikely heroes, and high-stakes adventure, then Anya and the Dragon is exactly what you're looking for. Sofiya Pasternack has crafted a truly magical debut that feels as much like a fresh take on the genre as it does like an old favorite. Anya and the Dragon is a gorgeous story of friendship, bravery, and discovering that power comes in all shapes and sizes.

Dog of the Week
Skippy

Skippy is a beautiful, social and sweet 11-year-old Border Collie. A remarkably calm girl, she loves people--both small and full-grown--and other dogs. She also loves listening to music but, like many dogs, decidedly does not enjoy thunder and lightning. Hope there's only clear skies ahead for you, Skippy!
