Wellesley Books Newsletter | July 9th, 2020
It's hard to believe we've been open for a whole month already, but, thanks to all of you, we're feeling pretty great about it! Our shopping appointments have been running smoothly, we've been getting many compliments about the care we're taking to ensure everyone's safety, and we're generally able to accommodate walk-ins as well; just give us a call if you're in our neighborhood. If you're a fan of our gift department, stay tuned: you'll soon be able to shop it virtually via our Instagram. We'll also be expanding the gifts and puzzles available through our website. And we're also launching our new picture book subscription service this month; see below for more information.
Wellesley Books is happy to announce its inaugural A Child's Library: a subscription service for children ages 0-5 (or anyone who loves picture books)! Each month, our children's book buyer, Lauren, will select one newly released picture book to be sent or picked-up from the store. The purpose of A Child's Library is to help foster a love for books within the child's home. It makes a great baby shower gift!

The program kicks off in July with local author Lisa Rogers and her book Hound Won't Go. To find out more about our subscription service, click here.

Bookseller Recommendations
Jess recommends:
The Guest List by Lucy Foley
Almost like the game of Clue, the party arrives on a small island off Ireland for the wedding of TV's newest star of Survival and his very successful bride, Jules. As a storm surges in the channel, the power goes out and a waitress returns to tell everyone she's found a body. The perfect wedding is ruined. Told between alternating chapters of now and then, the story of their pasts seep to the surface and past allegiances are broken.
Gillian recommends:
Hidden Valley Road by Robert Kolker
I couldn’t turn away from this fascinating account of the Galvin family as they cope with the devastating impact of schizophrenia on six of their twelve children. Compelling and heartbreaking, this book sheds a light on a poorly-understood disease and the generosity of a unique family who makes itself available for important scientific studies on the role played by genetics.
Lorna recommends:
Of Mutts and Men by Spencer Quinn
Like all the Chet and Bernie books, Of Mutts and Men is full of tiny moments of joy and humor. I have loved this series since it began. Spencer Quinn (pen name for Cape Cod writer Peter Abrahams) captures the spirit of all dogs in his narrator Chet. You don't have to take my word for it; he has been lauded by Stephen King: "Spencer Quinn speaks two languages--suspense and dog--fluently." The Boston Globe calls Chet "the most lovable narrator in all of crime fiction." If you want to feel good, pick up this book.

You Brought Me the Ocean by Alex Sanchez & Julie Maroh
The latest in DC Comics’ young adult graphic novels series from YA royalty Alex Sanchez and Julie Maroh features the origin story of Aqualad. Jake Hyde is a young man who lives in Truth or Consequences, NM (a real town!) and desperately wants to go to the University of Miami to study oceanography. But he’s hiding secrets from everyone--from his mom, his best friend, and he starts learning secrets about himself. And not just about the strange “birthmarks” on his body. You Brought Me the Ocean has a cinematic quality that makes the joys more joyful, the heartbreaks more sorrowful, and the discoveries even more captivating.
