Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater welcomes Alan Campbell to Seminar, directed by Christine Toy Johnson, with Satomi Blair, Jacob Heimer, Rachel Casparian and local favorite Ben Berry. Seminar opens with previews May 14, 15, and runs Thursdays to Mondays through June 13. A provocative comedy from Pulitzer Prize nominee Theresa Rebeck, Seminar is a story of four aspiring young novelists who sign up for private writing classes with Leonard (Alan Campbell), an international literary figure. Under his recklessly brilliant and unorthodox instruction, some thrive and others flounder, alliances are made and broken, sex is used as a weapon and hearts are unmoored. Birdhouse and Garden Auction   

Unique hand-painted and crafted designs for birdhouses and other garden inspired art using recycled materials will be featured at Wellfleet Preservation Hall's Annual Birdhouse and Garden Auction on Saturday, May 23. The event takes place inside the Hall and in the garden behind Wellfleet Preservation Hall. Admission is FREE and includes hors d'oeuvres, live music and a cash bar.  Lower Cape Sprint Triathlon  

On Saturday, June 20th, Cape Cod's community radio station, WOMR/WFMR-in conjunction with Kathleen Walker of Gut Check Triathlon and New England Endurance Events-will hold its fifth annual Lower Cape Sprint Triathlon. Proceeds from the event will benefit Cape Cod's only community radio station, WOMR/WFMR, with a portion being donated to the Wellfleet Montessori Preschool as well. You can register online at www.lowercapetriathlon.org or on the morning of the event at 5:30 am at the Wellfleet Elementary School parking lot on Lawrence Road. The race will begin at Long Pond starting at 7:00 am. Triathletes can choose to compete either as individuals or in relay teams, racing through a quarter-mile swim in Long Pond, a 10-mile bike loop, and finally a three-mile run. Della Mae is a Boston-bred, Nashville based outfit  that blends the best of decades of old time bluegrass and Americana. Little Capistrano Bike Shop

The Eastham location at 30 Salt Pond Rd. is now open 7 days a week from 9am-5pm. The Little Capistrano Bike Shop, with two convenient locations on the cape cod rail trail, offers bike rentals, sales, and repairs. The Wellfleet location will open on Memorial Day Weekend. Wellfleet Investigates  
Cultural District Status
   

Interested stakeholders, community members and organizations are invited to an information session and  community presentation on the creation of a Mass Cultural District in Wellfleet. Cultural districts help local arts, humanities, and science organizations improve the quality and range of their public programs so that more local families can benefit from them. They enhance the experience for visitors and thus attract more tourist dollars and tax revenue. And they attract artists, cultural organizations, and entrepreneurs of all kinds - enhancing property values and making communities more attractive. Learn about and discuss the creation of a Massachusetts Cultural District in Wellfleet on Tuesday, May 12 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at the Wellfleet Library. The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod has announced that Attorney Bruce Bierhans, a resident of Wellfleet, will be the new Chairman of the Board of Directors for the organization. Bierhans' law practice specializes in trial law with offices in Hyannis, Chatham and Eastham.  He also currently serves on the board of Wellfleet Preservation Hall and public radio station WOMR in addition to his founding role in the Cape Wellness Collaborative. The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, the Cape's designated regional arts agency, provides artistic, cultural, and educational programs in every town in Barnstable County, with an emphasis on supporting arts education initiatives, individual artists, and cultural organizations throughout the year.  For further information about the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, please visit www.artsfoundation.org.   

 

The concert is sponsored by and will benefit the Wellfleet Historical Society and Museum as it embarks on an exciting renovation and expansion. Come out and listen to the lively and heartwarming songs and tunes of Ireland, Scotland and Cape Breton on fiddle, pipes, bass and guitar. The concert will take place on May 16th at Wellfleet Preservation Hall at 7:30. Tickets are $18 and will be available in advance at wellfleetpreservationhall.org or, wellfleethistoricalsociety.org, and at the door.

WELLFLEET FARMERS MARKET  

The 2015 Wellfleet Farmers Market season begins on May 20th! Stop by on Wednesdays, between 8 to 12 on the green behind Wellfleet's Preservation Hall for fresh and local produce, meats, honey, eggs, prepared foods, baked goods, flowers, coffee, live music & more!  Pick up your starter plants to get your garden going this spring to kick off the first farmer's market of the season on May 20th! The Wellfleet Chamber of Commerce hosted an After Hours networking event at the Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank on Thursday, April 16. The historic bank building swelled with attendees and numerous withdrawals were made at the bar set-up through the teller window. The Bookstore Restaurant provided sumptuous appetizers, oysters on the half shell, and decadent desert cakes. The sixty Chamber members and friends that attended the event had a wonderful time. Funds were raised to benefit the Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod. Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod works to provide the opportunity of affordable home ownership to families living in situations of critical housing need. The Wellfleet Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank for their generous sponsorship of the April After Hours. Branch Manager, Patty Foster, and her staff provided invaluable assistance in hosting and supporting the event. Four fabulous door prizes were distributed by a drawing of names of attendees by Board President Bob "Moo" Morrill. Seamen's Bank  Employees of the Year   

John Roderick, President of Seamen's Bank, recently announced that Brian Anderson has been chosen Employee of the Year and Julie Hight was elected Teller of the Year by their fellow employees. Anderson, Security Officer, was honored for his friendly professionalism. Brian Anderson also serves as the Treasurer for the Wellfleet Chamber of Commerce. Hight, who works in the Shank Painter Road, Provincetown location, was commended for her motivation and superior customer service. Anderson, a resident of Eastham, has ten years of experience in banking and has been working at Seamen's Bank for five years. Hight, who lives in Wellfleet, earned a BS in Accounting at Bryant University, and has worked at the Bank for almost two years. Seamen's, Cape Cod's first community bank, was founded in 1851. The oldest bank on Cape Cod, Seamen's has five offices from Provincetown through Eastham and serves residents and business owners from Brewster to Provincetown.  

  TD Bank Summer Concert Series
 
The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod presented a Spring Talent Search seeking new Cape bands to add to the lineup of the 2015 TD Bank Summer Concert Series. The Talent Search provides an opportunity for established and emerging bands who have never played the TD Bank Summer Concert Series to showcase for a live audience and a panel of judges to compete for open slots in the lineup.The modern Rhythm and Blues band Steve Morgan and the Kingfish, took the evening's top honors and will appear in the summer music series this July. The group also often includes Paul Lesniak on saxophone, John Wolf on trombone, saxophonist Berke McKelvy as well as some other familiar Cape faces.  Cape Cod Poetry Group  

The Cape Cod Poetry Group will host a Poetry & Music Series on Tuesday, May 5th, from  7:00pm  to 8:30pm at the Wellfleet Library. Featured  Poet: Sarah Browning, Executive Director of Split This Rock: Poetry of Provocation & Witness, Washington, DC, author of Whiskey in the Garden of Eden, co-editor of D.C. Poets Against the War, and co-host of the reading series Sunday Kind of Love at Busboys and Poets in Washington, DC. Her poetry resides at the intersection of the personal and political and
considers our responsibility to one another in a difficult world. Spotlight Reading: Margaret Phillips has taught English in Indiana, Germany, Japan, and Provincetown. Her poems have been published in journals and newspapers, and she is the winner of a Cultural Center of Cape Cod Poetry Competition. ServSafe Certification & Recertification

The WorkForce Education and Resource Center is offering ServSafe Certification and Recertification Classes this May. ServSafe Certication is offered 5/4/15-5/11/15, 4:30-8:30pm. This course is designed for the initial certification of food service managers. This accredited program will prepare you for the ServSafe exam. The ServSafe Recertification class is offered Monday 5/18/15, 4:30-8:30pm. This course is designed for the recertification of food service managers. Recertification is required every 5 five years. SPAT Invests in Shellfish  

Wellfleet Shellfish Promotion and Tasting, Inc., (SPAT), is devoted to sustaining Wellfleet's shellfishing and aquaculture industries. Even the name honors the oyster. The acronym SPAT is also the name for a newly attached baby oyster.  SPAT announced plans to invest $125,000 in the Aquacultural Research Corporation, a local shellfish hatchery in Dennis, MA. ARC provides 80% of the seed for the entire state, which in turn supports 1400 shellfishing jobs and 17,000 recreational harvesters. This project will also conserve 39 acres of barrier beach and critical marine habitat in perpetuity while preserving the only commercial hatchery in Massachusetts. Other partners in this unprecedented public-private enterprise are the towns of Dennis and Yarmouth, the Dennis Conservation Trust, the Nature Conservancy, Barnstable County, the Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen's Alliance and the commonwealth of Massachusetts through a Conservation Land Tax Credit and the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs. Outermost Toast   

  

Outermost Toast, the lower Cape chapter of Toastmasters International serving members from Hyannis to Provincetown, invites the public to attend their meeting on Monday, May 4 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Preservation Hall at 335 Main Street in Wellfleet. Toastmasters International provides a learn-by-doing experience in which participants sharpen their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure, supportive environment.
