Park 'N Play Day

$1.8 Million Awarded for Improvements to Downtown
The Town of Wellington will receive $1.8 million in grant funding through the CDOT Revitalizing Main Street Program. The Wellington application was one of only 31 projects selected from across Colorado to receive this incredible funding opportunity.
 
The funds awarded through this grant program will be used for improvements to crosswalks, ramps, drainage, and sidewalks along Cleveland Avenue, between First and Fifth Street. The overall project goal is to improve access and safety downtown. The project will address a series of safety measures and traffic calming designs, and increase awareness of people using crosswalks.

These enhancements will provide benefits for vulnerable users, school children, pedestrians, and bicyclists, and improve the overall accessibility in downtown by implementing ADA-compliant ramps at all intersections.
 
The timeline for these projects has not yet been established and the Town of Wellington will work hard to keep our community informed of the progress every step of the way. 
Utility Rate Study Update
In May 2022 the Town initiated a Resident Water and Wastewater Roundtable to review the utilities’ cost of services, rates, fees, and financial plan.

Raftelis was hired to conduct an in-depth rate study, and create a rate model for future use by Town staff.

The Roundtable residents were selected and have met three times already with two more scheduled meetings.

Finance Committee
The Board of Trustees commissioned the Finance Committee on May 10, 2022, appointing the inaugural members on June 14, 2022.

The committee is currently working on establishing by-laws, and preparing to review the 2023 budget proposal.

Duties of the committee include:
  • Make recommendations to the Trustees regarding the Town finances, annual budget and long-range financial planning.
  • Review Town revenues and expenses on a monthly basis.
  • Review reports generated by outside consultants on matters that have a financial impact such as rate studies and contracts for banking or financial services.
  • Provide an independent review of the Town’s financial reporting processes and internal controls.

Local Business Spotlight
Meridian Trust Federal Credit Union has produced landmark successes and expansive growth. Chartered in Cheyenne in January 1954, a small office opened two months later in the State Board of Charities and Reform. Meridian Trust began opening more branches across the state, including in Wellington, CO in February of 2020.

Here is a snapshot of our 2021-22 community efforts: Through our Meridian Trust North Star Foundation we raised $22,500 during the “Flags for Heroes” event, $3,000 by our HEAT Program to pay heating bills for people in need. We also award 6 college scholarships every year. In Wellington, Meridian Trust has offered financial literacy at the Boys & Girls Club, is a Chairman’s Circle member of the Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce, and has sponsored several organizations including American Legion Wellington Post #176, Spargetoberfest Foundation, and Wellington, CO Main Street Program.
The Town of Wellington is committed to supporting our local businesses. We would like to build awareness of our businesses and encourage residents to “Think Wellington First” when purchasing goods and services.
