Introducing Family, friend, and neighbor (FFN) Caregivers Playgroup starting September 13th!

Many families rely on extended family, friends, or neighbors to provide care for their young children. FFN care providers play a critical role in supporting children’s health and early development (Birth-5 years).

Through an early literacy grant, the Wellington Public Library will be providing resource kits, education, and an opportunity to connect with others—working to support FFN caregivers and prepare children in their care for school readiness. Join us for an FFN Playgroup Wed. September 13th at 10:15 AM.

We need the community’s help to spread the word!

If you are interested or know someone who is an FFN care provider, please share this opportunity or email librarywellingtoncolorado.govfor more information.

Budget BOO-nanza

Have you ever wondered why a certain park was updated or why some potholes were repaired before others? The Town of Wellington budget is the tool used to execute the Board of Trustees Strategic Plan. Come learn about the budget process and provide feedback on the proposed budget for 2024 at the Budget BOO-nanza. Tuesday, October 17, from 3-6 p.m. at the Leeper Center.

While budgets might sound boring, staying engaged with the budget is an incredible way to impact your local government. To make sure the whole family can engage in the budget, this event is informal, come and go as you please.

Pick up a free pumpkin, and ask your Trustees and Department Directors questions. Stations with key components of the budget will be set up, and you will have the opportunity to dive into the topics that interest you.

Budget Saving Spotlight

Turf tank painting robot in green grass

An exciting new efficiency has joined the Town of Wellington team. Meet the Turf Tank Robot, or as the Parks and Recreation staff call it, R2T2.

Town of Wellington departments are completing their 2024 draft operations budget requests for the Board of Trustees consideration, a process of predicting expenses and identifying opportunities for efficiencies.

R2T2 is a perfect example of budget success from 2023, saving an estimated $2,500 per year in hard costs and allowing the reallocation of over 500 staff hours. The investment has dramatically reduced the time, number of staff, and paint material it takes to paint fields, allowing the team of three full-time and one seasonal staff to complete the many other tasks required to maintain 80 acres of parks and open space. Staff have mastered the necessary programming to run R2T2 and are looking for opportunities to support other areas of town, such as Streets or the Wellington Main Street Program.

Town staff and the Board of Trustees are dedicated to fiscal responsibility as we steward taxpayer dollars and strive to provide outstanding municipal services. The Draft 2024 Budget will be presented to the Board of Trustees several times throughout the fall. Get involved early and mark your calendar to provide your feedback and engage during the Budget-BOONANZA on October 17.
