Eating For Your Health

By the BaySport Team

Don't wait until you're thirsty.

Stay ahead of dehydration before it slows you down!

When you're focused on the job, it's easy to forget to drink water, but even mild dehydration can affect your energy, focus, reaction time, and endurance. That's not something you want when you're working around electricity, climbing ladders, operating equipment, or spending hours outdoors.

Try these simple hydration habits throughout your workday:

  • Start hydrated. Drink 16–20 ounces of water before leaving for work.
  • Sip consistently. Don't wait until you're thirsty. Aim for a few gulps every 15–20 minutes, especially in hot weather.
  • Replace what you sweat. If you're working in the heat for several hours, consider an electrolyte drink or electrolyte tablets to help replace minerals lost through sweat. Choose options lower in added sugar when possible.
  • Eat foods with water. Vegetables, yogurt, soups, and other water-rich foods can help you stay hydrated throughout the day.
  • Check your urine color. Light yellow usually means you're well hydrated. Dark yellow is often a sign it's time to drink more water.

Small habits make a big difference. Staying hydrated helps you stay alert, work safely, and feel your bestβ€”on the job and after the workday ends.

πŸ’ͺ Don't just read about healthy hydration – Put it into Practice!

ο»ΏMany of the hydration tips above are also featured in this month's Hydration Bingo Challenge. It's a fun way to build healthier habits, stay accountable, and earn a chance to win a $25 gift card or the $200 Grand Prize!

YOUR GOOD MENTAL HEALTH:

Let The Sunshine IN! 🌞

Spending a little time outdoors can do more than lift your mood, it can support your overall well-being. Morning or late afternoon sunlight helps your body produce vitamin D, which plays a role in brain health and mood regulation. Pair that sunshine with a short walk, plenty of water, and time with family or friends, and you've got a simple recipe for a healthier mind and body.

Try this: Aim for 10–20 minutes outside each day (while protecting your skin with sunscreen when needed), stay hydrated, and take a few deep breaths before heading back to work. Small habits can make a big difference.

πŸ“Œ Take Five Outside

Five to ten minutes in natural sunlight can help reduce stress, improve mood, and increase alertness.
