Why Say Thank You?

It’s all too easy to take people or circumstances in our lives for granted. We get busy, we say we’ll do or say something next time, or we tell ourselves: ‘they already know I’m thankful, I don’t need to tell them All The Time!” or many other ways we rationalize why we don’t say thank you.

But expressing gratitude affects both the giver and receiver.

Expressing gratitude can have many positive impacts on both your and the other person’s mental and physical health, including:

  • Improved sleep: Gratitude can help you fall asleep and stay asleep by activating the hypothalamus, which regulates sleep.
  • Reduced stress: Gratitude can help you manage stress and feel happier, which can lead to more energy and a positive mindset.
  • Better mood: Gratitude can improve your mood and immunity.
  • Reduced pain: Gratitude can help regulate dopamine, which is a natural pain reliever.
  • Stronger relationships: Expressing gratitude can help you build trust and closer bonds with the people around you.
  • Improved health: Gratitude can decrease depression, anxiety, and the risk of disease.

All it takes is just a moment; and the benefits are long-lasting.

WHO WAS CROWNED CHAMPION?

We ran our first ever Local vs Local Fitness Challenge with a football theme these past four weeks.

Despite some great efforts throughout the challenge and pulling a WIN during Week 3, Local 617 took the win this week and the Overall Challenge.

KUDOS to those of you who participated to bring in the scores!

  • Jason Meadows
  • James Saunders III

  • Moose Keosoupha - who scored a Touchdown Each Week

 And who knows?!?

I see a VINDICATION challenge in 2025 - I bet this team can make a SWEEP of it!

Make No Bones About It!

Bone health isn't on top of your mind when you're younger. That's because your bone density doesn't start to decrease until around age 40 (assuming you are getting enough nutrients and exercising). Diet, exercise, not smoking, and limiting alcohol all go a long way toward keeping bones strong today and in the future. Exercise is one of the key elements for optimal health.

This health tip shares more information on how exercise helps with bone health and three types of exercise to consider when trying to strengthen your bones.

YOUR GOOD MENTAL HEALTH SPACE

Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others.” Unknown

Gratitude can change common days into thanksgiving, the routine into appreciation and the ordinary into the EXTRAordinary!

Kaiser Permanente puts it so well:

Gratitude is saying "thank you." But it's more than a thank-you to a friend for a favor or gift. Gratitude is saying thanks for everything that is important to you and good in your life.

You are thankful for a gift, but you're also thankful to watch a sunset, do well at a sport, or to be alive.

You see your life and your experiences as a gift.
