Sinus infections often follow a cold and cause pain and pressure in your head and face. While most sinus infections could be treated with self-care measures, it is recommended that you see a medical practitioner if the symptoms are severe, prolonged or repeated. Below are five tips to help you reduce stuffiness in your sinuses:
- Drink plenty of fluids to thin the mucus.

Apply a hot, damp towel on your face for 5 to 10 minutes at a time, several times a day to help soothe sinus pain and to help clear the nasal passages.
- Expose your sinuses to warm, moist air (for example from a steamy shower, a hot bath, or by leaning over a bow/sink filled with hot water).
- Use saline nose drops and sprays to keep the nasal passages moist and use saline nasal washes to help keep the nasal passages open and wash out mucus and bacteria.
- Use a humidifier at night to help relieve nighttime nasal blockages.
