"I found the Wellness Workdays class to be educational and eye opening on the impact high blood pressure has on my life.  The tools and information I learned were presented in a way that has allowed me to continually be aware and make changes in the right direction without feeling overwhelmed."

April 2011
Dear ,

April showers bring May flowers, right?! The sun will be here in New England soon. We always love when our Texas and Southern California clients and partners share their weather forecasts...70 and sunny...again!

April 27th is National Walk at Lunch Day. Would you consider sending an email with a time and place for employees to meet and go for a stroll around the worksite? You can purchase shirts with the slogan "We Walk the Walk!" or provide a healthy lunch afterwards. Email me and I will send you a Stretching at Your Desk handout for the participants to do after they complete the walk.

Next month, May 19th, I will be presenting at NEHRA's Spring Conference. Please stop by and say hi!

In good health...

The evidence is here...there is a strong correlation between a well run worksite wellness program and the financial success of a company! According to a recent Watson Wyatt Worldwide Staying@Work report, "companies with the most effective Health and Productivity (H&P) programs experienced superior human capital and financial outcomes." The report cited the following advantages:
- 11% higher revenue per employee,
- lower medical trends by 1.2% points
- 1.8 fewer days absent per employee and
- 28% higher shareholder returns.

The report concludes that those companies with a highly effective health and productivity (wellness) program, relative to their industry peers are also more likely to have:
- lower health care costs
- lower levels of presenteeism
- fewer lost days due to disabilities and
- lower levels of turnover.

This lends research support to what many of us have always believed.

So how do we get to a well-established and effective wellness program? A recent Towers Perrin Workforce Study reported that: "senior management interest in employee well-being is the number one driver of employee engagement. And engaged employees are far more likely to devote the discretionary effort to their jobs that helps build long-term performance improvement and competitive advantage."

If you are interested in reviewing these reports and learning more about how to apply these findings to your program, please contact Debra Wein to set up a one-on-one consult. Wellness Workdays can provide a detailed Wellness Audit for your organization highlighting key areas, challenges and opportunities for wellness in your organization.
