There’s a lot happening across the West Avenue neighborhood as we continue making progress on the West Avenue Neighborhood Improvements Project. Over the next several months, residents will see multiple construction activities taking place simultaneously as crews advance critical drainage, utility, traffic signal and infrastructure improvements that will help create a more resilient neighborhood.
Here’s what to expect in the coming weeks and months:
-
Property surveys and testing to verify building connections to the city's stormwater system began in June within Segment 2 and will continue over the next few weeks.
-
Drainage installation on Lincoln Road west of Bay Road resumes this week with preparation work having begun in front of the Hotel Gaythering. The operation will progress from east to west toward the seawall. As the drainage installation work progresses to Lincoln Court residents and visitors can expect an upcoming closure of the Lincoln Court pedestrian bridge.
-
The contractor will also begin installing a new water quality well this week on 16 Street between Bay Road and West Avenue. Due to the nature of this operation residents should expect elevated construction noise during work hours.
-
The traffic signal subcontractor continues working on installing traffic signal foundations at the intersection of 16 Street and West Avenue this week.
-
Utility work in the area is ongoing. Expect to see them in the construction area supporting the project.
In addition a separate City project is also getting underway nearby. Beginning this week the City of Miami Beach will start resurfacing Alton Court between 8 and 9 streets. Work will move north one block at a time through 15 Terrace. Click here to learn more about this project.
As construction activities continue across the West Avenue neighborhood, the project's estimated completion has been updated to late fall/early winter 2026. The revised timeline reflects the complexity and scale of the work underway and allows crews to safely complete the critical infrastructure improvements that will enhance the neighborhood's long-term resiliency. We appreciate the community's continued patience and cooperation as this important project moves forward.
