Senior Cadets Attend "Holmquist Police Academy"

"Over the last 8 weeks our Senior Cadets attended the “Holmquist Police Academy” which was run by Lt. Craven. The Holmquist Police Academy is a community based program designed to help our residents learn more about our department and the services we provide. Our graduates learned about police operations, procedures and our responsibilities by engaging in active discussions with several of our officers and community partners. We covered several topics including patrol procedures, motor vehicle & criminal law, and crime scene investigations. A special thank you to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Plymouth County DA Tim Cruz for their assistance!"

Old State Police Barracks

4b3e2b82-f028-4caa-ba0d-325b374b0ce6 image

In the 1930s, one of the Massachusetts State Police Barracks was in West Bridgewater. It was located on the southern corner of the intersection of River Street and South Main Street.

At the time, it was the Headquarters of Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police. It was seventy years old and consisted of 325 officers.

The area where the State Police Barracks once was has since been replaced with a shopping center.

Climate Can-Do: Preventing Food Waste at Home!

We waste food in our households daily without realizing how much. One-third of all food in the United States is left uneaten. Solving this easily preventable problem can reduce our environmental footprint and save us money!

1) Plan and prep weekly meals. Make a list of what you need and estimate how much you will eat. This will help prevent overshopping and save you money.

2) Know the proper way to store food. This helps it last longer and reduces food rot. Most vegetables, especially ones that wilt, such as lettuce, should be placed in the fridge's high-humidity drawer. Other fruits and vegetables that could rot should go in the low-humidity drawer. To help prevent mold, make sure to wait to wash your berries until you are ready to eat them.

3) When cooking and preparing meals, it is good to repurpose and use ingredients you already have or leftovers to make something new rather than buying more food or throwing leftovers away. A little imagination helps when repurposing some food that's past its prime: stale bread makes great croutons!

Taking these steps to prevent food waste can benefit you and our environment, so let's continue moving forward!

High School Hockey Goalie Reaches 2,400 Career Saves

EAST/WEST BRIDGEWATER VARSITY HIGH SCHOOL BOYS HOCKEY: STAR GOALIE BRAYDEN BATES REACHES 2,400 CAREER SAVES.

Junior Brayden Bates, a West Bridgewater resident and star goaltender for the East/West Bridgewater boys hockey team continues to build on his simply sensational career resume by hitting a milestone in making his 2,400 high school career save in front of the net in the first period of the game against Attleboro on February 19, 2025. Having more than 2,400 saves in a high school career with another year left is remarkable and an extremely rare feat for anyone at that level in high school to achieve.

Brayden finished the 2024/2025 regular season with 660 saves and had a save percentage over 90 percent. During the 2024/2025 season, he had 3 games stopping 40 or more shots with his best a 44 save game against Blue Hills. He also had 10 games in the season with 30 or more saves. Brayden was also recently named to the South Shore League All-Star team for the season for his outstanding accomplishments.

Brayden’s spectacular work in front of the pipes has been Houdini like leaving his teammates, coaches, fans, and opponents shaking their heads with praise. In the 2023/2024 season, Brayden averaged a mind-boggling 40 saves a game. He has been the starting goalie since the 2021/2022 season when the East/West Bridgewater coop team first joined together as a unit and was considered their MVP of that initial season for his exceptional play and helping to lead the team to the MIAA tournament that year. Brayden Bates lives and breathes with his eyes on the puck or in his gloves with a strong work ethic along with the ultimate goal of playing in college and is already being considered an elite prospect with his credentials as proof.
