The Puncharc team installed the three major park art sculptures along the 40 West ArtLine last week. More art is on the way in anticipation for the June 1st launch festivities!
Join us for WCCA's monthly general meeting this Wednesday, May 16th, 7:30am, at 40W Gallery (1560 Teller Street). This month we welcome Jay Hutchison, Lakewood's Director of Public Works, with a status report on North Dry Gulch improvements and Ruth Holden, festival co-chair, with an update on the 4th annual West Colfax MuralFest.
 
Members and friends are encouraged to attend the meeting to network and  hear the latest news from elected officials, corridor representatives, neighbors, and business owners. Enjoy f ree coffee and breakfast items. Meetings start promptly at 7:30am and wrap up by 9am. 

WCCA meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 1560 Teller St., Lakewood 80214. The next WCCA meeting will be on June 20th.

Thumbs Up to All Who Participated in the Annual West Colfax Clean-up!

The Colfax Marathon, scheduled for May 20th this year, is fast approaching! That means its time for the West Colfax Clean-up! For more than a decade, volunteers from throughout the community rally behind the leadership of the Two Creeks Neighborhood Association and WCCA to put our best foot forward for the thousands of runners who will scurry through our community. Many thanks to all who ventured out this past Saturday to spruce up the Colfax Marathon route.
 
40 West ArtLine Launch Party Brings Prehistoric Guests to the District June 1st
 
The 40 West ArtLine launch is one of the most anticipated events of the year, only a a few weeks away on First Friday, June 1st! Experience interactive art, live music, creative activities, food trucks, a bike parade, and friendly dinosaur flash mobs! This event coincides with the  40 West Arts  District-Wide Art Walk and Drawing the Line exhibition with open galleries and other exciting District-Wide activities for the entire family to enjoy. We anticipate this to be a BIG event!  If you have an hour to spare, we could use all the help we can get! Sign up to volunteer.
 

Edge Theater Opens Classic Production This Week: Death of a Salesman
 
The Edge Theater's newest dramatic production, Death of A Salesman, opens May 17th and runs through June 3rd, 2018. Death of a Salesman is a 1949 play written by renowned American playwright Arthur Miller. It is widely considered by critics and audiences alike to be one of the greatest plays of the 20th century. Don't miss the Edge Theater's last production of 2018 before passing the torch to Benchmark Theatre. West Colfax Lately Luncheon and SNL-like Skit Entertains Sold-out Crowd

The 4th Annual West Colfax Lately Luncheon was a sold-out success. We honored LEGEND award winner the honorable Steve Burkholder and announced the final results for the MOMENTUM Award Winners: Banner Signs & Decals and West Line Flats. Attendees also enjoyed a irreverent, but funny SNL-styled Weekend Update for West Colfax produced by Benchmark Theatre in collaboration with WCCA. If you missed it, watch the skit online here.

ALL ITS OWN Spring Garden Party and Plant Sale May 20th

Join ALL ITS OWN on West Colfax Avenue for refreshments while learning how to prepare soil, plant succulents and natives, and take care of our Colorado gardens. They'll  have hardy succulents to put in the ground and also winter hardy plants for sale by Cold Hard Cactus and Blazing Star Nursery!  Bring your own gardening supplies and drinking water . . . Mayor's Dedication of 40 West ArtLine Set for June 9th

Please join the community and Mayor Paul as he officially dedicates the 40 West ArtLine at Mountair Park. This event coincides with the Mountair Park Community Farm's annual event, called Family Farm Fiesta, which includes a variety of free, fun, family-friendly activities. The festivities take place Saturday, June 9th from 12-2pm, with the dedication slated for 12:00pm. Details here.

WestFax is Brewing More Than Just Beer . . .  They're Brewing Fun, Too!

WestFax Brewing Company is an active member of the community and hosts numerous events throughout the year. On May 19th, don't miss their free comedy show which is listed in Westword's Top 10 Weekend Things to Do for Less than $10. WestFax is also participating in the  West Side Brewery Bike Loop! The bike route takes beer lovers to WestFax, Joyride, Hogshead, and Seedstock. The bike loop takes place the last Saturday of each month, and will provide $1 off a pint at each brewery with a free beer at the brewery of choice after completing the loop.


Colfax Marathon to Take Place May 20th--See Map Link for Road Closures
 
Thanks again to everyone involved with the Colfax Clean Up that took place on May 12th to get ready for the Colfax Marathon. More than 19,000 athletes are expected to participate in the Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon on Sunday, May 20. To provide a safe environment for this year's race, the cities of Aurora, Denver and Lakewood will have temporary road closures along the Colfax Avenue corridor on race day. View road closure information and an interactive map here. The race runs through downtown Denver, along seven miles of rivers and lakes - including Sloan's Lake and  Lakewood;s historic W. Colfax Avenue for a total of 26.2 miles.
Lakewood Plans Big Boom Bash for 4th of July!

Big Boom Bash by Lakewood, a new Fourth of July celebration hosted by the City of Lakewood, will take place on Wednesday, July 4, rain or shine, at Jeffco Stadium, 500 Kipling St. Admission is free for this event, which kicks off at 5:30 p.m. and culminates with a spectacular 20-minute fireworks display at dark, beginning at approximately 9:15 p.m. The event includes children's activities, a community art project, vendor booths and local food trucks. The Lakewood Beer Garden presented by Foothills Credit Union will feature beer from Lakewood-based breweries and will also offer hard cider for purchase.  More details here.
 
Dutch Bros Coffee to Open in Lamar Station Plaza Mid June!!

The cult-worthy coffee chain, Dutch Bros is making its final plans to open in Lamar Station Plaza by mid June! Expect long lines all day because they give away free drinks on their grand opening date from 5am -11pm! A soft opening will take place before the grand opening--so keep an eye out for activity. Stay tuned for the final date and follow their social media for updates  @dutchbroslakewood.


40 West Arts Welcomes New Artist in Residence, Mari Crespin! 
 
Each year 40 West Arts, with its partners with Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design, Metro West Housing Solutions, and the Lakewood W. Colfax BID, selects a new artist in residence  to develop and support arts-related programming in the district (and it's always free of charge and open to the public). For 2018-2019 we welcome  Mari Crespin , a fine artist pursuing a BFA. Mari works in multiple mediums including installation, photography, film, sound, performance and painting. Welcome Mari!  
All You Need to Know About Reed Art & Imaging True Art West Fest on Aug. 4th

40 West Arts recently interviewed Reed Art & Imaging--new neighbors in the corridor located at 8000 W. Colfax Avenue. To learn more, read the write up here! They are hosting a festival in their parking lot with all proceeds benefiting the 40 West Arts District. Art vendors can apply here by May 16th. The festival will take place on August 4th, one week before the annual West Colfax MuralFest. West Colfax MuralFest Returns on Saturday, August 11th, 2018

MARK YOUR CALENDAR! The 4th Annual West Colfax MuralFest returns to Lamar Station Plaza this year on August 11th. Expect new murals, creative activities, trolley tours, local music and spoken word poetry, food trucks, craft beer, live demos, creative vendors, and more!  Celebrate the vibrancy of our community here in the heart of 40 West Arts District. MuralFest was named a top summer art event to attend this year by 303 Magazine.
