In her paintings she starts with remembrances from her home, gardens, parks, and travels. Often using photographs at first, eventually she works instinctively, abandoning the limitations of representation, and channeling remembrances of places, people and time into her paintings. She is influenced by the breathtaking color and marks of masters like Monet, Van Gogh, DeKooning, Mitchell and Diebenkorn.  For more information, contact Jill Ziplow, 860-231-6339, [email protected] .

Women Gather for 2nd MEGA Challah Bake, Sunday, March 5, 2:30 PM
On Sunday, March 5, 2:30 PM at the Emanuel Synagogue the Mega Challah bake will be a fun, inspiring afternoon with great feminine energy.

Put together, by Chabad of Greater Hartford, participants will mix and knead their own bath of dough, learn an array of braiding techniques and the traditional and mystical meaning behind every step that goes into making this fragrant bread.

Challah, the popular Jewish food is a braided bread traditionally eaten on Shabbat and Jewish holidays.  From the times of our matriarch Sarah in the Bible over 4000 years ago, challah and the traditions connected to it, has been a magical gift observed by the Jewish woman.

While reciting the blessing on challah a woman has a "direct channel" to G-d at this point and it's an opportune time to ask for all that is on her heart and mind.

The event is open to the public for woman and girls 2nd grade and older. For more information and to RSVP visit www.MegaChallahBakeCT.com  or call 860.232.1116.

West Hartford's Cookin', Saturday, April 1, 6:30-9:00 PM

In light of the event falling on April Fool's Day, the theme this year is "No Foolin', it's a FACT!".  Committee members are excited to uncover facts from the schools and share them with guests.  For example, did you know that the honorary chair, Town Manager, Mr. Ronald Van Winkle, attended Duffy Elementary School's first Kindergarten class?  The committee is delighted to honor Mr. Van Winkle as he has been an important leader in our town for 30 years.

Tickets to the event can be purchased on-line by visiting www.fwhps.org, $50 for patron tickets and $100 for benefactor tickets.  For more information about West Hartford's Cookin', please visit www.fwhps.org or call 860-561-8755.

Some grants have supported teacher mini-grants or in-residence programs, while others have supported pilot programs, such as a full-day public preschool.
