A Message on Staying Positive from Your Principals
Dear Regents -

I am thinking about you all, and hoping you, your families, and your neighbors are doing well. Our world is changing from day to day. Our main goal is to help our community to stay healthy, and to give extra help to those who need it the most.

As we live and work through social-distancing measures that are designed to save lives, we are called upon to adjust our expectations towards things that we thought would always stay the same, such as learning together in classrooms, playing through sports seasons, and attending dances and social events. My heart especially goes out to seniors, who look forward to capstone experiences, competitions, recognitions, and celebrations that are postponed or canceled.

FAQs
MMSD has added a very informative FAQ section on their COVID-19 webpage - click here to access it. The second large section on this page is titled "High School" and has many answers about grading, AP tests, transcripts, college acceptance, etc.
Staying Connected
As we're all navigating this tough time, we want to find a way to stay connected and share how we're spending our time. Whether that be helping out our community, being creative at home or keeping our brain exercised with enrichment activities, let's share our wins and struggles as we all figure out what our days are going to look like for the time being. Follow West on  Facebook  where we'll be sharing district updates as well as the submissions from our new connections page! We're looking for shout-outs, celebrations, thoughts, hopes, and daily messages to keep us all connected - maybe you'll inspire another Regent who really needed a smile on their face or words they could connect to. We're accepting photos, videos, and text. Click here to share!

Cancellation of Prom
In an abundance of caution, the four comprehensive high schools agreed to cancel prom.  This is a tough decision. We know how important these events are. We know that West’s prom is weeks away (East’s prom is April 18th).   As high school principals, we agreed that if we cancel one, the right thing is to cancel all. This is for several reasons -- health risks, right? -- but another reason is that we know that Prom is a large financial investment in dresses, tuxes, etc.  The right thing to do is be smart and keep everyone healthy.
Senior, End of Year, and Other Event Cancellations
It’s hard to predict the future.  What we do know is that West High School, along with all Wisconsin public schools, is closed until further notice.  That will have implications for end of the year and capstone events. We know how important these are. We will keep you current with information as it comes to us.  You can expect that additional events in early May will be canceled as the days draw closer. A current list of cancelations is available on our website events calendar .

Free Internet Services
MMSD has partnered with Spectrum to offer free internet services for 60 days to all MMSD community members. This service will begin on Monday, March 16th. Charter will be offering free Spectrum broadband and WiFi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription at any service level up to 100 Mbps. To enroll, call 1-844-488-8395. Installation fees will be waived for new student households.
Food Distribution Sites
There are 10 food distribution sites that will be located at MMSD schools to provide access to breakfast and lunch. West is NOT scheduled as one of these sites. Click here to see the MMSD sites and the menu for each day.
Library Link
Here's a direct link to the West Library Portal for your child's use to keep their brain active during this unexpected break. Our librarian, Ms. Hennes, will be updating this link with more resources as they become available.
