West Lake Houston Pedestrian Tunnel Construction

Houston, TX - Beginning on Monday, August 29 at approximately 9:00 a.m. contractors will begin to implement traffic changes on West Lake Houston Parkway. The northbound lanes between Sycamore Springs Drive and Appalachian Trail will be closed and detoured via the new south bound lanes in anticipation of the construction of a new pedestrian tunnel.  Once the new pedestrian tunnel has been completed the current at-grade crossing of the West Lake Houston traffic lanes will be protected by the tunnel and the greenbelt trail will be a safer amenity for Kingwood.

Traffic control measures such as barricades, signage and flagmen will be in place as needed, and the District E office has notified the Houston Police Department's Kingwood substation to request that officers monitor the location and assist with traffic control if necessary. Construction is  currently expected to be completed within sixty days, with project timelines subject to change due to weather.

For more information on these projects, please contact the District E office at (832) 393-3008 or via email at districte@houstontx.gov.
