WINTER NEWSLETTER | JANUARY 30, 2023
Happy New Year & Welcome to 2023!

As we move into the new year, I want to reflect on the exciting things that 2022 brought our community. We welcomed so many new families to our community, especially to our newly licensed Memory Care and Assisted Living neighborhoods. As with new residents and neighborhoods, we welcomed new staff members as well.
Now, we settle in for the winter months in Ohio! While the snow is falling outside, we will have new events and activities scheduled to beat the winter blues. Carol and Vicki are rolling out a new program called, Fit Minds. This is an amazing program, and I hope that you will join Carol for this activity. Check your calendar!

As a reminder, visitors are welcome to join our residents for any activity and meals. Come in and enjoy a wonderful meal in our dining room, or join us Monday through Friday at 3:30PM for a drink in the pub. The pub is definitely the new social scene of the community! If you play cards, board games or just like to socialize this is the place to meet your neighbors.
So while it might be cold outside, remember to check your calendar for the daily events and activities to keep you active.

Thank you for choosing to make Traditions at West Park Place your home.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT
What an amazing year we have had here at Traditions at West Park Place. We welcomed many new residents to our Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory Care communities, and we are continually growing by the day!

There was lots of laughter filling our hallways during the holiday season. Together we were able to raise $123.36 for the Alzheimer’s Association during our Penny Drive. Thank you to everyone who donated or supported our goal by sharing it. I was the lucky (or unlucky) manager who received the most money in my jar, ultimately landing me with a whip cream pie in the face. We thank you for all of your generosity and helping find a cure for Alzheimer’s.
We continue to feel blessed to be working in the place where our residents live.

MEET OUR TEAM!
Hello everyone! My name is Vicki Coy and I am very happy to be the Memory Care Director here at Traditions at West Park Place.

I started in long term care as an activity assistant in 2003, became a nursing assistant in 2005 while working in activities and in 2006 I was certified as an Activity Director. My grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease around that time and I decided that I would be his voice and advocate throughout his journey.

I became certified as a CARES specialist, as a dementia care specialist, and went on to be a Certified Dementia Practitioner. I enjoy bringing smiles to the faces of my residents, and love seeing the look of relief and security as well, when they know someone is understanding them and helping them every day. I am passionate about training staff and family members, giving them strategies to better care for and communicate with their loved ones who have dementia in a way that ensures dignity, respect, and inspires trust.

If there is anyway, I can assist you please feel free to contact me. I hope to hear from you soon!

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: JEFF HOGLE
Jeff is our new Maintenance Director and everyone loves him... fellow employees and our residents alike.

Jeff is always wanting to accommodate everyone in the community. He is very polite and makes each person seem like they are the most important person and strives to get their issue resolved as soon as possible. He doesn’t call it a day until his list is done, many times staying late and coming in on the weekends to get ahead of the next work week.

Jeff has worked in communities such as ours in California, and brings a wealth of information to the table. We are so lucky to have Jeff as part of the Traditions at West Park Place team!
FIT MINDS
2023 brings Fit Minds for our Varietas and Assisted Living residents! We are excited to bring this cutting-edge program to our community!

Fit Minds can be life changing with increased mental stimulation. Cognitive stimulation is an evidence-based intervention that supports what research tells us about the brain’s ability to build resilience and create new neuron pathways. Fit Minds provides mental stimulation, in group and individualized programs for seniors and senior living communities.

Fit Minds exercises five key areas of cognition:
  1. Language and Music
  2. Visual/Spatial Orientation
  3. Memory
  4. Critical Thinking
  5. Computation

75% of participants see a positive increase in their cognitive scores after only 8 weeks. Why is improving your cognition important?

“Cognitive stimulation has also been shown to be an effective habit for preserving cognitive degeneration. Low education is a risk factor for dementia and degenerative disease, so stimulating the brain can be helpful in minimizing the risks of cognitive impairment and degenerative diseases.”
