WHAT'S HAPPENING
Horseshoe Trail Bridge

The replacement of the Horseshoe Trail Bridge, located between Rt. 113 and Chantilly Lane, is nearing completion. Our original date for reopening came and went at the end of October, as issues with staffing and supplies due to COVID, wet weather and road widening delayed the project. Hopes were again dashed as the reopening expected for last week failed to materialize due to manufacturing issues with the guide rails. We are hoping that the last of the guide rails will be installed next week, and after a walk through inspection, the bridge will be open.

We wanted to share the process with our township residents, and thank you for your patience.

Horseshoe Trail closed in early August, after years of planning for construction. Pictured above is the preparation of the stream bed under the bridge.
Arrival of the pre fabricated bridge. The bridge has three arches, the main arch allows the stream to flow during normal weather, and the other arches prevent the road from flooding during storms.
Pictured above is the new bridge before paving began.
This two lane bridge replaces its single lane predecessor.
With the widening of the road completed, this is the last picture taken of Horseshoe Trail before paving.
So close! New guide rails are almost done.
PINE CREEK PARK NOW OPEN
On October 28, 2020, the Palmer Horse Barn at Pink Creek Park caught on fire. Six fire companies worked to contain the fire, however, the barn was a total loss. Fortunately, there were no injuries and we are very grateful to the First Responders who battled this blaze.. The cause of the fire is an undetermined accident.

The park remained closed for several weeks for insurance and safety reasons. Reopened on December 4, the park is again available for public use. The site of the fire has been fenced off for the protection of visitors.
TOWNSHIP ARCHIVES
History of the Township Building
The large barn our township office and SALT Theatre occupy was built in 1845 as a barn for the large farm at the east end of Yellow Springs Village. In 1928 the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts purchased the barn and 100 acres, transforming the barn into a sculpture studio. They removed the rear wall and added glass to permit the north light to enter. More information can be found on our Facebook page.
