WEST TEXAS DISTRICT NEWSLETTER
December 12, 2019
Dear Pastor/Friends,

I am very excited about the opening of several new works on the district these days.  This past Sunday, I
had the privilege of participating in the launch service of our newest Church Type Mission, Mid-Cities African United Fellowship Church of the Nazarene in Arlington, under the leadership of founding pastor, Michael Gatkek. Michael and his core group had worked very hard planning this event and there was a tremendous turnout. I counted about 80 in attendance.  I am particularly grateful for Pastors Lori and Greg Key and the Renewed Life Congregation for hosting this new congregation!

We welcome Rev. Claudio Carracedo, his wife, Sthefani, and their children, who have recently moved to the DFW area from Campinas, Brazil, where he was an associate pastor at Campinas First Church of the Nazarene. Sthefani is now studying for the Ministry at Christ For the Nations Institute in Dallas. They are also busy studying English. However, they have already begun a new ministry in a coffee shop near their home, reaching out to other Portuguese speaking families in the Metroplex. Already they have reached several families and they are gathering for worship and Bible study every Thursday evening. The Cerracedos have become active in Arlington First Church.

It was great to worship with the Antioch Korean congregation on Sunday afternoon, November 24! On that day we celebratedtheir sixth anniversary as a congregation! I am so grateful for Pastor Paul, and Esther, Lee for their faithful work among the Koreans living in this area. Paul and Esther are also currently involved in church planting in Carrollton, as you know. Special thanks also to Pastor Clint Benn and the Arlington First congregation for providing ministry space as gracious hosts for Antioch!

Susan and I were able to attend the Lamesa and Lubbock Zone Christmas gatherings last week. We're pictured here with the awesome Lamesa group.  This coming weekend I'll be in Amarillo and Pampa for the Amarillo and High Plains zones.  We are always so grateful for the opportunity to be with our pastors and spouses.

Speaking of pastors and spouses...we are rapidly approaching the Shepherds' Sabbath (see the promotional flyer below). Registration is picking up as we approach the deadline of Dec. 19 th .  You can register at the district website, or by CLICKING HERE. Of cours, this is the one event annually (other than district assembly) when we can all worship and fellowship together. Please make every effort to attend.  The retreat is open to all ministers and spouses (including licensed ministers and retirees). We have tried to make it very affordable, with discounts and scholarships available. It's so helpful when everyone registers by the deadline set by the hotel.  Thank you also for planning to stay through the course of the retreat after the communion service on Sunday morning.
Rev. Bonnie Brown

Rev. Greg and Martha White
Finally, we want to welcome Rev. Bonnie Brown, our new pastor at Seagraves.  Pastor Brown will be moving to Seagraves in  early January from Lubbock, where she is involved in Lubbock First Church. Bonnie is coming into the Church of the Nazarene from the Anglican Church of America. Recently she met with our credentials board and we were overwhelmed by her spirit, qualifications, and powerful testimony of salvation and entire sanctification. Pastor Bonnie will be following Pastor Greg, and Martha, White who are retiring at the end of this year, having served faithfully in Seagraves for 15 years! We are so grateful for the White's faithfulness. They will be continuing in their dynamic prison ministry!

Please know that Susan and I (and Kai) greatly admire and appreciate you!  We are so thankful to share
ministry with you here on our great district! We pray that you will have a very blessed Christmas...and that 2020 will be your most fruitful year of ministry ever!

For you and with you,

Pastor David Downs

Merry Christmas West Texas!
It has been a joy and honor to serve you this year!  There have been so many amazing things that have happened and still so much more to come.  We are already busy planning Vision Conference.  You'll be receiving more information the first couple weeks of January of how you can be involved.  But for this time and season, let us pause and remember the reason we do it all.
