December 2, 2021
Dear Pastor/Friends,

I want to congratulate our Lubbock First Church congregation on the election of Rev. Gary Young as their new pastor. Gary and Cori are certainly not newcomers on the West Texas District. Gary has served as an associate pastor at Lubbock 1st for many years and as our District NYI president.
I am a delighted about his election! Gary is much loved by the First Church congregation and is deeply rooted in the community. I know that great days are ahead!
The Youngs follow Pastor Michael Page and Dee Ann, who have served Lubbock 1st amazingly over the past decade. Michael is retiring in mid-December and will be devoting much of his time pursuing his passion for serving and encouraging retired Nazarene ministers through The Barn ministry, and currently assigned pastors, missionaries, and Christian workers through the new 501(c)3, Shepherd to Shepherd Ministry.
Under Pastor Page’s leadership Lubbock 1st has seen significant growth, statistically, financially (their debt was completely liquidated), and spiritually. Michael serves as our Lubbock Zone coordinator and has served as CNMC board chair…and has been a valuable member of the ministerial credentials board. I am delighted that they will remain on our district.
I am also pleased to announce another new church plant (Church Type Mission). Dr Pedro Cruz and His wife Justita will be returning to our district in February to serve as our pastoral couple at Snyder First Church where they will also be starting a new Spanish-language international ministry. We love Dr. and Mrs. Cruz!
As you receive this newsletter Susan and I will be traveling to the Lubbock Zone Christmas Party and preparing for this Friday evening’s east-side zones Christmas party. It’s going to be a busy, but exciting, December. Susan will be able to accompany me to all but one of the zone parties. We look forward to seeing you and giving you this year’s ornament.

Finally, our hearts were deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Pastor Becky Adams, who faithfully served our Big Spring and Lantana congregations. Becky was such a wonderful member of our district team, and a gracious and talented Lead Pastor of the Wister, Oklahoma congregation. Our deepest sympathy and prayers go out to Wes and their children.

For you and with you,

Pastor David Downs

Pastors,

Just a reminder that if you are bringing on staff (paid or unpaid), according to Manual paragraph 211.13, you must receive District Superintendent approval. Please reach out to the district office to request an associate application form that will need to be submitted to us once it is completed. Also, we will need a background check completed on the applicant. If you would prefer, the district office can run the background check but we will need you to submit the information and the cost of $16/applicant.

Blessings,
