Dear Pastor/Friends,

Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to Joe Lewis following the tragic loss of his wife, and our dear friend, Pastor Crystal, in a tragic automobile accident last week. We pray also for Crystal’s congregation in Stinnett.
Sometimes there just do not seem to be adequate words to express our sense of loss…but aren’t we grateful for our faith, the certain resurrection, the Church, and for the Good Shepherd’s comfort and presence in times like this?
Also, we express our sincerest sympathies to our retired assistant district superintendent, Rev. Paul Marshall, whose wife, Barbara, went to be with the Lord on October 27th. Barbara was a wonderful wife and faithful partner in ministry.
I’ve been reminded in this season just how much we need each others love, support, and encouragement. This, along with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit is the purpose of our Shepherd Sabbath each year. Already, many of you have begun registering for the Shepherd’s Sabbath, which will be held January 14-16 in Abilene, with special guest speaker, Scott Rainey. I am so excited to think about all of us getting together again. I hope each of you will plan to attend. Please see the promotional below for preregistration info.
Also, I’m looking forward to seeing you at our zone Christmas gatherings, which are scheduled as follows:

December 2                        Lubbock Zone – Lubbock First
December 3                        Eastside Zones – Arlington First
December 6                        Amarillo Zone – Garden of Dreams
December 9                        Lamesa Zone – Lamesa Church
December 10                      High Plains Zone – Red River Steakhouse in McLean
December 12                      Whichita Falls Zone – WF First Church
We are delighted to welcome four new pastoral couples to our district! John and Carol Hobson have arrived in Hamlin and will be installed this coming Sunday. They come to us from Texarkana, Arkansas.
Also, Pastor Billy and Jenny Stone have just arrived in Whitney. They’ve come to us from Farmington, New Mexico. Pastor Stone’s installation service will be held November 28th.
Pastor Larry Classen and his wife Janet will be installed at Gainesville Eastside on December 5th. They served there as interim for the past several months and are already very much loved by the congregation. Many of us know them as the parents of missionary Lynette Page. We are so grateful for their service in Gainesville!
In addition to these three wonderful new couples, we welcome Pastor Robert and Tracy Wallace, who are coming to us in early January from Charlottesville, Virginia. They have been assigned by our advisory board as organic church planters in the Lake Aquila/Peoria area. I’m very excited about the concept of organic work, which will be very different from traditional church planting.
Congratulations to Pastor David Hollon of Denver City on the completion of a very positive church board/pastoral review on October 17. David and Robin have served in Denver City since 2009 and are very loved by their people and their community.
I want to bid farewell and many thanks to missionaries Joe and Cheryl Young, as they have been given clearance to return to their international assignment in Asia. They have been such a wonderful blessing to our Graham congregation as interim pastors this past year.
I am pleased to appoint locally licensed minister, Keith Norton, to step in at Graham as lay interim pastor. Keith is pictured here with his wife, Jennifer
Finally, as we approach Thanksgiving, I want to express to you how grateful Susan and I are for the privilege of serving on the WT District. We have come to greatly love our pastoral families. Honestly, I cannot imagine a more fulfilling ministerial assignment. I am so grateful for our district family and the joy of serving you…and our Lord, together with you.

For you and with you,

Pastor David Downs
Our district treasurer, Dan Davisson, has prepared the West Texas District 2021-2022 "Funding The Mission" report as of November 17, 2021. Pastors, please pay close attention to your church's contributions so far this year. Please make every effort to encourage your people to faithfully maintain their giving for others.

Click here to download the report.

Just a reminder that if you are bringing on staff (paid or unpaid), according to Manual paragraph 211.13, you must receive District Superintendent approval. Please reach out to the district office to request an associate application form that will need to be submitted to us once it is completed. Also, we will need a background check completed on the applicant. If you would prefer, the district office can run the background check but we will need you to submit the information and the cost of $16/applicant.
