October 11, 2018
Dear Pastor/Friends,

I am very pleased to announce that Pastor Terry and Sandra Porter, of Borger First Church, are our new co-directors of Arrowhead Camp and Retreat Center (our district campgrounds).  They will begin their new assignment on October 16th.  I had the privilege of worshiping in Borger this past Sunday as Terry delivered his final sermon as their pastor.  The Porters have served in Borger for 20 years! They are deeply loved and appreciated in their church and in the community. Sandra is our very capable district women's ministry director.  Please join me in prayer as they begin their new assignment...and for the Borger First congregation as they seek the Lord's direction regarding their next pastor.

Congratulations to our office manager, Vania Palacios-Alvarez and her husband, Josh, on the birth of their precious daughter, Elianah Alyssa Alvarez, on October 1st!  As previously announced, Vania will be out of the office on maternity leave until December 1st. During her absence we have a great team of volunteers (including our previous office manager, Ana Carrier) who will be serving the district here in the office.  Pictured here with Ana and me are our volunteers, (left to right) Linda Hines, Raylene Tucker and Raydeen Watson. I am very grateful for their service!

I want to thank our pastors, staff members, and local lay leaders for the tremendous job you have done leading your congregations in the Ministry Safe Abuse Awareness training! As I write this all but one or two of our English speaking pastors have completed the "Skillful Screening" training. Our Spanish and Korean speaking pastors are currently in process.  This has been a huge undertaking and will pay great dividends regarding the safety of our children and teens.  I want to thank our District Children's Ministry director, Jennifer Sommers, and Assistant Superintendent, Earl Robertson, for the many hours of work they have put into this very important project. We are extremely grateful!

Please begin to make plans now for the Shepherds' Sabbath which will be held in Abilene on February 1-3.  Dr. Carla Sunberg will be our speaker this year. Check out the promotional flyer below in the newsletter.

Finally, please join me in prayer for Pastor Coleen Scott and our Burkburnett congregation.  This past Sunday the extreme rain that fell in the Wichita Falls area led to the flooding of their main building.  The entire building was under 3-6 inches of water!  I want to thank pastor Eric DeLuna, of Wichita Falls Lakeview, who came over to Burkburnett with a number of his people to help extract the water.  Nevertheless, tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage occurred.  Our district disaster response coordinators, Cal Callender and Marcia Nikl are organizing volunteers to begin the process of recovery on Thursday of this week.  Please let them know if you would like to participate.  Pastors, very possibly we will need to take up a special offering to help them. Please be watching for details regarding this.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the Awakening next week in Arlington.  We are praying for a powerful time off worship, instruction and inspiration!

For you and with you,

Pastor David Downs

Our district treasurer, Dan Davisson, has prepared the West Texas District 2018-2019 "Funding The Mission" report as of October 10, 2018. Pastors, please pay close attention to your church's contributions so far this year. Please make every effort to encourage your people to faithfully maintain their giving for others.

Hello Pastors and NMI Friends!

My name is Serina Nelson, and for NMI purposes I am your West Texas District Vice President and Alabaster Coordinator.  September was the month for the Alabaster Offering, but if your church was unable to take this important offering, never fear! There are so many exciting ways to promote  the Alabaster Offering any day of the week, and the best news of all? February is ALSO an Alabaster Offering emphasis month... so it really is NOT too late. I wanted to take a moment and just share with you some of the places where you can go to utilize information, get ideas, and access resources that pertain to the Alabaster Offering. Alabaster is now one of the 5 main areas of impact that NMI has chosen to focus on so that local churches can better impact our global mission. The Alabaster Offering is now getting a little revamp, so there are now some really new and exciting things available now (for FREE) for you to use, and better yet:there will be MORE coming as efforts continue!

The first link is from our very own Church of the Nazarene website!  It now features a NEW Alabaster video you can show anyone and everyone to help them learn just a little bit about the Alabaster Offering. It also has links to purchase more Alabaster Offering boxes, a link to download promotional materials, and even an EASY online giving option! There are also 4 current projects listed there for us to learn about that directly relate to Alabaster Offerings. Go check it out!!!

How are Alabaster offerings received? The Alabaster Offering gets to the mission field via several avenues. The most widely used is the Alabaster Box.

Another link is right from our Official Church of the Nazarene YouTube Channel. (First of all, this is a great resource... and not just for Alabaster!) All I did was follow this link, click on the search magnifying glass, and type in "Alabaster"... and that will lead you to several videos about the Alabaster Offering and some pretty remarkable testimonies from all around the world about how Alabaster Offerings have impacted lives and communities.

Videos from the Church of the Nazarene denomination.

These are just a couple of great resources available to you for FREE! If you ever have ANY questions regarding Alabaster, even if it is not September or February... please do not hesitate to contact me! I would be glad to help you any way I can. Thank you so much.
