Reducing Our Carbon Footprint

In January, the CETT and WVE School students and faculty implemented a no idle school zone. The CETT hopes to work with all elementary schools to make all of the OJR school district a no idle zone and to implement programs that reduce our carbon footprint.

Road Salt in Our Streams

Although this winter hasn’t brought us much snow to our area, our waterway ecosystems are still affected by use of road salt.

Stroud Water Research Center has just published an informative article, “Why Volunteers Are Tracking Down Road Salt in Streams."

The WVT EAC members have taken on a project to evaluate road salt in streams within our township. If you live near a stream and want to help with this project, contact Donna Delany at d.delany@comcast.net. The project will begin this spring and continue through year-end.

Winter Sowing of New England Asters There is still time to plant New England Aster seeds for your summer gardens.

On Saturday, January 21 at Opalanie Park, our EAC members gave out free New England aster seeds for winter sowing to 50 West Vincent residents. 

New England asters are integral native, keystone plants that support our wildlife habitat. Learn how you can prepare to add them to your summer gardens and maintain the biodiversity of our township.

Picking Up Litter and Gathering Momentum - West Vincent Township

The Litter Lifters of West Vincent Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, held on Monday, January 16, combined efforts with new partners, the Owen J Roberts High School Eco Club, the Leo Club, and the JROTC engaging 40 volunteers, picking up 45 bags of litter, AND collecting 25 lbs. of food for a local food bank!
