POLICE NEWS

Unemployment Compensation (UC) - Fraud

Over the past several months, we have received a very large number of unemployment fraud claims.

As it has been dying down, unfortunately, we still are having residents needing to file police reports. If you are a victim of unemployment fraud, access the PA Department of Labor & Industry site to follow the steps to report your claim. Be sure to check all of your financial accounts to confirm that they have not been affected.

Frog Crossing Alert!

It's almost time for the amphibians to cross the road--but they need our help to get across safely without being squished by cars.

Amphibians, like spring peepers, live in the woods and mate in the wetlands. To get to their favorite West Vincent breeding ground, they need to cross Hollow Road. For over a decade, families and volunteers have come out with buckets and pails to help them cross. Our WV Police close the road to keep people and frogs safe.

Our amphibian friends like to cross when the sun goes down, the temperature is just above freezing, and it is rainy.

So don your rain gear, and sign up for the West Vincent Amphibian Patrol with Carys Egan at carys.levin@gmail.com! You will receive an email alert on prime-crossing days.

West Vincent Township will not hold this event during high winds or threats of thunderstorms.

CLEAN ENERGY TRANSITION TEAM

Our Latest Improvements and Updates

The WV CETT and the Administration work together to ensure our Township focuses on clean energy goals, such as energy efficiency and on-site renewable energy technologies with the expectation of reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and improved overall resilience to climate change, while simultaneously lowering operational expenses.

One example of the combined energy efficiency and cost savings has been realized in the Police Department’s 2020 purchase of a hybrid SUV. Within the first four months of operation, the Police Department has experienced a 45% decrease in operational cost and improved vehicle power performance compared to a full-gas vehicle. A second hybrid purchase and a fully-electric police vehicle fleet is currently under consideration by the Board of Supervisors and the Administration.

CETT is also working with businesses and residents interested in improving energy efficiency and transitioning to a cleaner and healthier environment. The Team is identifying mechanisms such as grants, special loans, rebates, and incentives that can assist in funding many of these projects.

How You Can Help

CETT would like to engage our residents and businesses to help catalog tangible efforts to improve energy efficiency and clean energy usage of township businesses, homes, and personal and fleet vehicles.

If your home or business is transitioning or has completed the change to cleaner energy sources and more efficient systems, we want to know!

Clean energy projects include insulation and weather stripping, replacement of incandescent with LED light bulbs, HVAC improvements, alternative fuel vehicle purchases with in-garage chargers, and/or installation of solar arrays.

Please share any energy improvements you have made with a brief description of the project to the Team at WVCETT@gmail.com.

This information will help the CETT map our township’s commitment to clean energy and provide a valuable community resource going forward.

We encourage all residents to stop by the CETT and Sustainability tables at the West Vincent Community Day on Saturday, May 14 to review their efforts to date.
