New Sign Installed at Opalanie Park
The planning for proposed improvements at Opalanie Park (1422 St. Matthews Road) is nearing completion.
The Board of Supervisors and the Parks & Recreation Commission are working on a conceptual plan that will illustrate the proposed improvements.
The proposed improvements include several additional trails for pedestrians and horses, one or two pavilions, a tot lot, and a handicapped-accessible fishing pier at the pond.
There will be significant stormwater management improvements made in the park that will illustrate best management practices that also can be used by homeowners to better manage stormwater on their property. The Environmental Advisory Council plans to regularly share the latest stormwater management information with our community.
The Historic Commission is preparing a brief history of the site that will be incorporated on several panels throughout the park.

School Bus Laws
This week was the start of the new school year for many school districts, including Owen J. Roberts.
We would like to welcome all students back and remind drivers to be observant of school buses stopped, picking up / dropping off students and to obey the 15 MPH school zone speed limit when in effect, indicated by the flashing lights on the school zone signs.
| | | |
Please be advised we will be strictly enforcing these laws:
Motorists must stop at least 10 feet away from school buses that have their red lights flashing and stop arm extended.
Motorists must stop when they are behind a bus, meeting the bus or
approaching an intersection where a bus is stopped.
Motorists following or traveling alongside a school bus must also stop until the red lights have stopped flashing, the stop arm is withdrawn, and all children have reached safety.

How Do You Recycle Your Batteries?
-Patti Lynn, Recycling Resources Manager, Chester County Solid Waste Authority.
Manufacturing of batteries will increase over 400% from 2020-2025. From button cells to embedded ones, batteries are smaller, lighter, cheaper, but more energy-dense than ever before.
Batteries are either primary (one and done), or they are rechargeable. Both types can be recycled, but they do NOT go in your recycling bin OR your trash bin.

Litter Lifters of West Vincent - Volunteer Spotlight
Our West Vincent residents play an active role in keeping our roads clean!
We asked some of our West Vincent friends.... "Why do you pick up litter?"
| | | |
Peter was the original Litter Lifter of our township! He used the lockdown to clean up litter, identify dumping sites and engage residents who also wanted to help.
“I feel compelled to help preserve our natural resources and land. We live in such a beautiful township and it upsets me to see so much litter. I like to give back and set a positive example for others to follow. We don’t need to wait for Earth Day each year to do something good for our planet! Now is the time to make a change in the way we think and act, and encourage others to do the same!”
Peter enjoys biking, hunting and spending time with his family.

OJRHS student Sean
“When I ride around in the car in our community and I see litter on our local streets, it bothers me. Volunteering with the Litter Lifters group is a great way for me to safely clean up our streets and help keep our environment clean. It’s amazing the things we find!”
Sean enjoys swimming on the OJRHS swim team!

For Earth Day, Ann cleaned up a road near Opalanie Park.
“I pick up litter because I care about the beauty and environmental health of West Vincent Township. Not only is litter unsightly and detracts from our beautiful surroundings but it's bad for soil, wildlife and water quality. I hope that everyone thinks about how much trash they produce, reduce trash (especially plastics) and by all means, throw the trash you do produce in a trashcan.”
Ann loves to garden, ride horses and hike on our gorgeous trails!
