The Extraordinary Give,
Lancaster County’s largest day of giving
|
The Boehm's Chapel Society
This is a 24-hour event in which people across our community financially support nonprofit organizations. Donors will be able to donate at the Extraordinary Give’s website at extragive.org from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.
The Boehm's Chapel Society is participating in the event and is seeking your donations. Boehm’s Chapel, just south of Willow Street, Pa., was the first facility built for Methodist worship (1791) in Lancaster County and is the fourth oldest standing Methodist facility in the nation.
The Chapel Society maintains the Chapel and an auxiliary building and hosts services and other events.
You can connect with Extraordinary Give by logging onto our website at boehmschapel.org.
We have a list of needs and suggestions for interested donors that range from $50 to help maintain our Mama Beam apple trees; $150 to help pay our monthly utilities; $200 to sponsor a speaker; and the big ticket item, $500 to help replace shutters on the Chapel. Of course, any amount you can donate will help maintain the Chapel and its ministry. Please see the article on our website.

Gretna Glenn
We are so very excited to be moving forward with this much-needed project. This update will benefit our summer campers and retreat groups as this building becomes more of a year-round facility. The space will become ADA accessible along with providing a summer program office in the central part of our site. We are grateful to have already secured donations of $137,000. The estimated cost for this project is between $320,000-$400,000.

Ask The UMC:
Is communion simply a ritual of remembrance?
This content was produced by Ask The UMC, a ministry of United Methodist Communications.
|
Eucharist is shared during the morning prayer held in the chapel of Sarum College during the 2016 Wesley Pilgrimage in England. Photo by Kathleen Barry, United Methodist Communications.
Holy Communion includes a profound act of remembrance that recalls the last supper Jesus had with his disciples. But it is more than just a ritual of remembering. It is primarily an act through which our connection with God, each other and our life of ministry in the world is nourished and strengthened.
This Holy Mystery describes what we believe and practice in the sacrament: “Holy Communion is remembrance, commemoration, and memorial, but this remembrance is much more than simply intellectual recalling. ‘Do this in remembrance of me’ (Luke 22:19; 1 Corinthians 11:24-25) is anamnesis (the biblical Greek word). This dynamic action becomes re-presentation of past gracious acts of God in the present, so powerfully as to make them truly present now. Christ is risen and is alive here and now, not just remembered for what was done in the past.” Read more

- Saturday November 13, 9:00-11:30 AM
- Saturday November 20, 9:00-11:30 AM
Baptism is at the core of who we are as Christians -- but how well do we truly understand this sacrament? Those of us who serve in church leadership often face practical questions with deep theological roots. Why do we baptize? What happens in baptism? Why do we baptize infants? What do we mean when we say "remember your baptism" -- especially if baptized as an infant?... Learn More
